Why US server with good connection to europe? Why not Euro server with good connection to US? If that will do:

unmanaged:
Intel Xeon i7 W3520 (dual quad core)
12 GB DDR3 RAM
Intel SSD X25-M 2x 80 GB (RAID 0/1)
30Mbs bandwidth (burstable 1Gbs) (10TB)
€100/mo

or

the same as above but 2x80GB SSD + 2x1.5TB SATA2
for €119/mo

Can I ask why you want an SSD drive? SSD is good for desktops but I don't like them for servers. They're not as good at doing sequential reads, and write performance isn't as good. Database performance isn't as good either.

Secured Servers can do your requirements with an SAS drive instead of SSD:

Quad Core Xeon X3430 Package (4 x 2.40 GHz, 8MB Cache)
8GB DDR3 memory
146 GB 15K SAS drive (faster than normal server class HDDs)
6600 GB transfer per month
5 IP's
unmanaged

$222/month.

I've hosted with Secured Servers for a while now and they're the best I've ever had. Definitely recommend them :thumbsup

I have this in stash:
4 core xeon 2.4 ghz
8 gb of ram
250 gb x 2 hdd raid 1(not a SSD but proper setup can give a speed close to SSD)
10 tb bandwidth
Semi managed
160$ monthly.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOPS

with SSDs, it's important to know WHAT you're getting, which is why I stated the type of SSD in my post... the X25-M performs at a total of 8600 I/O operations per second, whereas a 15krpm SAS drive can only perform 180 I/O operations per second...

So, please enter a citation where you see performance of a SAS drive outrunning a good solid SSD drive...

are you using their kimsufi range? Those have different connectivity than the SP or HG range. I'm using them and have no problems to the US - well, not a single US client has said anything or even noticed my move from LA to France... :2 cents:

--edit
one of their servers with a CDN would probably save you a lot of money...

Im curretly on EG-10R-SSD, maybe i need to test it for longer time. I have heard a planty of stories about lost data when drivers die, and long time (3-4 days) to downtime when this happend.

borked 02-22-2011 12:34 AM

when drivers die?
I had one of my servers crash daily and so I booted into their rescue mode to test all hardware (4 hrs downtime), which came back with passes for all tests, but I noticed the ram test hadn't checked all the ram. I reported this and within 15 mins they had replaced all the ram in the server.
I also am booted from their netboot kernel 64bit,1000MHz and tests on local kernel and with the netboot kernel (simply the 1000Mhz difference) dropped server load from ~0.8 to 0.05.

I would give it some more time since their paths to the US are great for me - I had this discussion in another thread with a rep from yellowfiber and showed traceroutes and even offered up a test download file from LA and OVH. for most there was no diff in speed from both servers, but some US people got even better speeds on the oVH download.

your clueless if you think ssd's are not good for servers :2 cents::2 cents:

I take it you like OVH overall? I am trying to choose between ovh, webzilla and leaseweb for a euro host.

Yeah, if you know how to manage a server, I think they are excellent. The reasons are they are extremely innovative, they a come a huge long way in the 11 years of their existence, they hide nothing, they give you all the tools you could possibly want and then will add new tools if you come up with new ideas (eg last month I asked for more soapi options to interact with their telephony offers, and within 2 weeks they were there).

I am that confident on them, I am migrating my home and office internet connectivity over to them for 10mbs SDSL. I want to get onto their network and away from these crappy regular ISPs! at ?25/5mbs SDSL, they offer by far the best price and I know their connectivity is far superior to my current ISP. They are currently working to get my NRA uncoupled and once that's done they will setup new line installation and I'm off! 100% OVH for servers, telephone and *DSL. So yeah, I have confidence in them.
