Serious Business Suggestion for Affiliate Programs in 2011

Serious Business Suggestion for Affiliate Programs in 2011

Around 2001-2002, I joined an affiliate program (can NOT remember which one)

I was assigned an affiliate rep that actually went out of her way to call me.

I thought this was the neatest/coolest thing ever... No other Affiliate program gave a shit at that time about reps...Everyone was making money, We are all partying like Rockstars.
Basically just calling to check on me and see if I needed anything or whatever... Mostly just to say hey "We're human, and we recognize you are too"

I did land up fucking that rep at the next Vegas convention. But that's not important right now.

But, even if they had assigned me a guy... I would have loved that they followed up and called me from time to time. (I would have not fucked him)

Affiliates are jumping ship/quitting the biz because we're trying all kinds of shit and its not working.

If you guys had someone that called us to show you cared, we may actually try harder for you.

Just an idea- And I would love to see what you guys think of this idea?

Would this help you as an Affiliate trying to find the right company to promote?????

No offense, but if you need a rep to give you motivation to try to work harder and make more money then you in the wrong business. If you can't motivate yourself to make more money on your own then you need to go work for someone else and collect a check each week.

I want the reps to stay out of my way and leave me alone. On the rare occasion I need them to check if a payment is sent or whatever I will hit them up.

I don't give a fuck if the company cares or not. Just pay me on time and up hold your end of the bargain.

It's 2011, I'm not worried about gifts, pat on the back, drinks, calls to tell me good job.... I'm worried about assholes changing their TOS, deciding not to pay people, going out of business, shaving, scamming, etc... If they can just stick to keeping their end of the deal, that is all the love I need them to show me.

" call us to show you care every once and a while" hunh ??? You drunk ?

plsureking 02-22-2011 01:16 AM

ya i've done work for a lot of sponsors in the last decade. the ones that have any awareness of their affiliate program at all don't think its worth spending that much effort, money and time on a group of salespeople who are already earning 50% or more of each sale.

not saying thats right, but its definitely the typical view of a sponsor. i dont care how bad sales get, calling affiliates on the phone is never going to be the norm. keep dreaming lol

gaffg 02-22-2011 02:02 AM

If you want phone calls from affiliate managers signup to casino affiliate programs. You might even get calls while you are sleeping depending on your time zone.

fuzebox 02-22-2011 02:05 AM

I'm with will76. If an affiliate rep actually called me on the phone I'd be pissed.

alias 02-22-2011 02:34 AM

You need a friend?

sojproductions 02-22-2011 03:17 AM

I can see the argument for both sides of the coin, but as a program owner i'd rather my team spent time on generating new tools, updating, customer service and so on making sure the end product is as good as it can be, quality should be obvious to the affiliate as he probably wouldn't have signed up in the first place.

Sharky 02-22-2011 07:50 AM

The problem with calling affiliates is that there are still so many part timers whose family might not know what they are doing. Personal attention is great, but phone calls in this biz are a little excessive.

ICQ/skype/email contact is more standard and accepted.

xNetworx 02-22-2011 02:42 PM

Affiliate programs should consider having a check box that says something like "I would like to receive periodic calls from a representative".

Tough to sell a cookie when there's all sorts of free cookie stands on both sides of your cookie stand.

Now -- adapt or die.

They don't call anymore in case the webmaster asks for his money

i do not want anyone calling me. ever. i'm in the internet business. internet contact is convenient and i'm contacted when i want it to be convenient. my two cents.

DBS.US 02-23-2011 11:20 PM

I would like them to call me in the mornings and ask me what time I'm going to start sending them some real traffic:winkwink:

Calls are a bit overboard, I remember getting a call back in 2004 myself. Threw me off, had a decent convo, somewhat productive I suppose. But definately better to use ICQ or AIM or the like.

That being said, I think sponsors used to make a lot more effort with their affiliates also. I used to sign up to programs and get adds on ICQ soon thereafter. Most sponsors are doing pretty well at providing all the tools needed for success, without helping much on the marketing strategy. Different sites/niches have better luck with certain campaigns, or am I incorrect? Would definately help out in my opinion to get a little guidance now and then. It benefits both parties in the end.

I'm just an affiliate and a hobbyist though.
I'll gf-myself :-)

I wont make a phone call but am definitely sure to contact via ICQ and email to see what I can do to make the affiliate's job easier. And if you are an affiliate and come to NYC you can always call me up for a drink.

I think there just has to be a lien where you get involved but not over involved.

You have to have some feeling when dealing with these sort of things. That's all I'm gonna say.

kristin 02-24-2011 11:41 AM

With EvilGeniusCash, we had people call us before and it annoyed the crap out of us.

At TopBucks once, they had the reps call regarding our leased feeds, that didn't go over well. We never tried it on affiliates.

docputer 02-24-2011 12:02 PM

It seems to be more common in mainstream. I don't think I have ever had an adult sponsor call me, but with mainstream, I have had reps call either during the approval process, or to chat to let me know I was approved and ask if I need anything.

PR_Glen 02-24-2011 12:26 PM

we are pretty much hated already, i can't imagine what it would be like if I started calling up members hehe

but seriously, i think calling people up randomly is pretty inappropriate. I'm not even a fan of hitting people up randomly on icq. If i recently spoke with a webmaster with a question about a topic and i hear news of something new we are working on i may hit them up occasionally but even then I am pretty cautious not to be bugging our webmasters.

who wants to sell a salesman anyway right? :)

hit us up and I can talk shop all day, that's what i do!

_Richard_ 02-24-2011 12:38 PM

did it once to weed out fraud, difficult.

thanks for the feed back!

I'm not too keen on being bothered all the time either. Those of us who push many programs would get annoyed if suddenly nearly every program started calling us regularly on the phone just to chat. Imagine 500 sponsors calling once a week!

I don't mind an email every now and then but don't be offended if I don't reply unless you are demanding it or it's important. It's great to see reps who care and ask every once in a while if there is anything I need though. It also shows that the program is still alive. However, keep it balanced and don't over do it.

DWB 03-06-2011 10:46 AM

If a rep called me, I'd try to have phone sex with them.

Communication is important. Can't tell you how many emails I've sent to affiliate reps that took a couple days to get back or were not answered at all. Now that most of us are doing their email on their phones there is no excuse for that

:2 cents: all of this. if i have an issue, i'll hit em up. if they have an issue or something 'special', feel free to hit me up.

on top of that.... the OTHER issue is that these days programs are expanding into being their own affiliates. so they are their own top priority when it comes to generating & maintaining traffic

CaptainHowdy 03-06-2011 11:06 AM

All your suggestions sure show that you're an "old school" webmaster ...

INever 03-06-2011 12:52 PM

Fucking your rep. :thumbsup

Markul 03-09-2011 12:36 PM

My phone rings a lot during the day and since I'm in Europe, I'd be pretty upset to get calls in the evening / at night from random sponsors.

E-mail, ICQ. Don't fucking call me unless you want to let me know you just wired a shitload of money and wanted to make sure I got it :1orglaugh

Also OP: If you feel need something, just contact the sponsor on ICQ. Works for me and most rep's I've worked with have been friendly and helpful (thanks!).

PStarks 03-09-2011 12:47 PM

I hope 80% of the people out there go into a depression spiral of pills from not getting calls by a rep and quit the biz... BEST DAY EVER!

More traffic for me :)

Same here. I'm not a needy webmaster, I know how to send traffic and don't need to be catered to. In fact, calling me would likely mean me going to someone else.

Jayvis 03-09-2011 01:56 PM

I talk to affiliates on the phone quite a bit.

Some prefer talking on ICQ, some Skype, some email and some just want to be able to text/call you.

The Heron 03-09-2011 02:34 PM

I just got a call from a more mainstream rep today after signup yesterday. Honestly it doesn't help me sell any better and mostly annoys me when they call. We work online, an email is much preferred.
