Must HAVE, Should HAVE, Could HAVE...

...learned to write proper English in school or on your own but instead you half-illiterate native English-speaking dumbasses insist on writing "must of", "could of" and "should of" even after you have been told more than once! Even many of the Europeans who write English as a second, third or fourth language like MaDalton spell & write it correctly, so what's your problem for fuck's sake?

Sly 02-22-2011 05:45 PM

I should of done it more just to annoy you.

L-Pink 02-22-2011 05:46 PM

Your write.

.

candyflip 02-22-2011 05:48 PM

Must've, Should've and Could've

If they're writing it wrong, you are correct. But if they're saying it, could just be a matter of what you are hearing.

spazlabz 02-22-2011 05:49 PM

I should of studied harder

but hey... I'm in Kentucky, doesn't that give me a fistful of mulligans?

DWB 02-22-2011 05:50 PM

I'm talking about written English right here on GFY and other forums too. More people don't know the difference than those that do at this point.

You missed a comma.

"...Europeans who write English as a second, third, or fourth language..."

You raise a good point about the use of the so-called "serial comma" or "Oxford comma" in written English. There is some debate in the subject depending on which country you originate from, whether you are writing something formal or informal, (look there it is!) and whether you are following the Chicago Manual of Style or the AP Stylebook. You can read a lot more details on Wikipedia and decide the appropriateness for yourself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_comma. Of course about using "could of" in place of "could have" or "could've" there can be no debate. That's just ignorance.

SteveHardeman 02-23-2011 02:49 PM

Yur in porn, dude. Ain't many Einsteins here.

And, AaronM, I believe the comma before the "or" is optional and typically left out more than not.

Tom_PM 02-23-2011 02:55 PM

I usually skip the last comma too. Then again, I'm a high school drop out.

mineistaken 02-23-2011 02:58 PM

Even as non English speaker I don't understand how is it possible to write "to" instead of "too". I read it everywhere, they even sound different, how come people mix them up...

TheDA 02-23-2011 03:28 PM

Lol. I don't really pay too much attention to what I write on here and other forums to be honest. I'm sure I've got some good ones somewhere, with my there, their, too, to etc. It's all typed out and posted without too much thought :)

Agent 488 02-23-2011 03:31 PM

you could of approached this topic differently.

dyna mo 02-23-2011 04:06 PM

you'd accomplish more if you tried to educate others instead of ridicule them.

I hate lazy illiterate morons. Jesus fucking on a cracker doll house.

I haven't been inside of a school room since I was twelve, and no, I don't come across as a college professor... hell, I've seen them spell lose like this LOOSE and I think .. what are you talking about, the hooker you took last night?

At least the way I write, it makes some sense.
It doesn't follow any rules - it's Fred Talk, when I speak or write. I make the rules for it, so if anyone ever thinks I'm not using proper grammar or spelling, they're wrong, by default.

SmokeyTheBear 02-23-2011 09:48 PM

you must of been dropped as a baby to cause such concern ;)

but seriously, why bother worrying about it, there are a lot more concerning things in the world. I write in my own style, i often write as i might talk in a casual situation.

Perhaps you spend more time writing and less time getting laid and others spend less time writing and more time getting laid, when you look at it that way who is the fool ? :winkwink:

stick to it...

you could of not started this topic and would of been better off ;)

fatfoo 02-23-2011 10:56 PM

Spelling is important, because the words should not be mistaken for other words. Don't misspell soul with sole and don't have incorrect grammar.

Shit like that bothers me hardcore as well. :thumbsup

B.Barnato 02-24-2011 01:35 AM

as barriers to entry for internet marketing are very low, specially porn with relatively much money to make it attract dregs of society, low level of intelligence, non to a little eduation and much criminal energy.

gfy is honey pot that attract society missfits who have little perspective in corporate world and upper level of society

how hard is it to tell porno actor to start making sex and point camera at this?

how hard is to create ugly banner and sell for 5 dollars?

how hard is to lie to web visitors and let them be rape by credit card?

95 % people here are here because no other option and easy money

nico-t 02-24-2011 04:12 AM

spazlabz 02-24-2011 05:19 AM

In all seriousness this pet peeve stuff just needs to be overlooked. We all do business with all types of people with different educational levels, from different countries and cultures. There are far more serious things that we as an industry need to pay attention to when doing business then a few spelling or grammatical errors

seeandsee 02-24-2011 05:38 AM

i should of have to read it

Si 02-24-2011 05:53 AM

I would have to agree.

Should've stayed in school, they could've learned to spell.

Europeans often speak 2, 3 or 4 languages. Often not all so well, but they're understood.

Sorry if we sometimes get it wrong.

two and too sounds same, but no way to sounds same as too or two.

Plus it does not even matter, its like 3d grade knowledge (to know the difference between to and too). Its unbelievable how is it possible to write to instead of too..
