they are better than the lottery as you can get your cash back any time you want.

Altwebdesign 03-01-2011 11:39 AM

I paid £50 and won £50.

i got them as my mum died and she had won £50 (i think).

but you cannot pass on your bonds if you die, you have to get the cash back. if you remeber terry and june they won some cash with a deads relatives bonds but found that out.

but its just a bit of fun.

think is, if you put in £5000 today, you can get your £5000 whenever you want. you just do not get interest like in a bank.

but that said if you have £10000 in the bank your not going to make much interest anyway these days. in fact i bet legally your money is safer as bonds than in a bank.

You'd have more fun at the dogs.

Altwebdesign 03-01-2011 12:20 PM

good stuff, might get myself some

With other UK government bonds paying so little, you're basically taking a punt with the interest. I won a grand when I was about 10. My dad kept it till I was 18 though.
I was ready to hit that sweetshop hard the day I won.

I had one, given to me as a present when i was born. I lost it about 8 years back - never won anything.

it does not matter, as long as the person who bought it is still alive and not moved.

if you contact them they will update the info.

if you win they contact you.

you do need to watch terry and june more. you lean about this from that show.

Had 30k in premium bonds for about 4 years, best i won was about £150.
They're not bad for small lumps, there's better places to invest though.

TheDA 03-01-2011 04:03 PM

I've got them too. Has worked out at around 3% return per year.

Theres no right or wrong answer with investments, but whatever you do, never buy an investment product with the bank. Go and see an IFA or something. Banks products are poorly performing compared to the market, and the tied agents are only trying to flog you products to boost their sales targets. Bank investments generally have lofty charges attached to them too

sojproductions 03-02-2011 08:10 AM

damn it... i thought the subject said premium blondes!

john FVC 03-02-2011 08:12 AM

Its pretty well documented now that they are a waste of time. The return on them is tiny.

Altwebdesign 03-02-2011 08:41 AM

damn that sucks!!
I was going to get into the stock market but thats a rissskkkyy game!

3% tax free isn't that bad at all.

Of course it's never guaranteed :)

woj 03-02-2011 10:28 AM

seems like a pointless gimmick, if it's going to pay 3% per year, why have some convoluted lottery system to pay it out?

30k decreasing in value every year due to inflation.

If your money isn't making more than inflation, you are losing it.
