The female Mark Zuckerberg: How 21-year-old created a social network because she didn't like her school yearbook photo... and is now worth $20m
Catherine Cook and her brother David were complaining about the choice of photographs in their annual school yearbook when an idea struck. She set up a social networking site using a computer in her bedroom and in six years has built up 25 million users across the United States. Myyearbook.com is one of the top 25 most visited sites in the country - and Miss Cook's company has just been valued at $20m. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...rbook-com.html |

there's nothing special about her or zuckerberg.
neither one has done anything that made their *social network* any more special than the dozens and dozens that have come and gone in the last 15 years they are both just incredibly lucky. |

I was impressed, until the article stated "her brother David".
We all know David came up with everything and did most of the heavy lifting. Let's be real. |

I read about these kids awhile ago. They launched after MySpace and Facebook. They outsourced their ideas to India developers who developed the entire thing as a MySpace clone.
They got lucky because Facebook was still college only at the time of their launch. So all of the younger kids looking for tighter community's and social networks ala Facebook didn't really have much of a choice. |
New place to spam, thanks!

Top 25 visited sites with a 543 usa alexa... I love the media.

Just one thing...
How does this happen: "One minute we were brainstorming ideas, the next we had received an investment of $250,000." |

It's a great story, everyone wants to think maybe their kid's gonna be the next Zuckerberg, but shit- even Zuckerberg's story isn't what everyone thinks it is. The truth is nowhere near as compelling. |
