It all comes down to the fact of whether good genes are being spread or bad genes

If the female is left to decide for herself on who to procreate with, she will have a better chance of having offspring with someone who's genes are well thought of by society.

However, if a female is raped, society doesn't like that as then the rape genes get spread. The rape genes have always been successful at spreading themselves around.
