Content Provider or Start Your own site?

Which is better right now with the current state of porn? I have the ability to do both, meaning I'm a photographer, Video producer and editor as well as a web designer. But I'm wondering if I should just shoot content for others or if it's worth building, running, maintaining a website? Besides which is less stress, which generates the most money? Any assistance and/or input would be greatly appreciated

There's no straight answer for what you're asking. If your skill set is geared towards shooting, but not promoting paysites, maybe you'd make a better living shooting content for others.

your future stuff is already on tubes.

i can tell you from my own experience that being just a custom shooter is the most risky way - cause you depend on a few clients and from one day to the other you could be without a job.

but working as custom shooter and re-investing part of your profit in shooting some content for yourself with the same girls for your own sites or selling it as non-exclusive content can work out fine.

see sig ;)

Shoot decent niche content. You can always license it as another revenue stream.

Yes, I agree.

Gotcha! thanks for the advice. I'm leaning towards shooting content for others. I'm good with promoting, but I prefer shooting content and leaving the stress of promoting to others, lol

Good point

AJHall 03-07-2011 03:58 PM

I agree with all who said to do both.

If you want a software product to build and manage your own sites on both subscription and VOD and keep 100% of your revenue in-house take a look at Elevated X

Good luck! As long as the content is hot you'll do well regardless of whether you decide just to sell it or build sites as well.

If you have questions about starting up sites I'm always happy to answer them.

yes both..

winning.

DWB 03-07-2011 07:58 PM

Both. But be sure to hold on to something unique for yourself, otherwise you're selling the same content to people who can run a site better than you probably can, which will probably result in not a lot of sales for you.

I stopped selling content a while ago and I never sold all of the rights when I did. Found it was easier to do partnerships with larger programs, then make a few small sites on my own on top of that, in addition to other forms of distribution for my content (DVD, broadcast, VOD, and so on). This way there were a few different income sources from your content rather than just trying to chip away at one little site. Can't say all of the partnerships always worked out well, but while they lasted most of them made OK money.

Whatever you do, you don't want to get yourself into a situation where you are forced to live off the tit of a few clients. Control what you own, whatever you are going to do, and you'll be OK.

cool thats great start your own :)

fitzmulti 03-07-2011 11:13 PM

I do both, and it works very well for me!
Primarily, my own content, and I supplement that with random content purchases...

The other way, would work as well, I am sure!
