My disappointment with hosting companies their support of piracy
IMHO, hosting companies (all of you) are part of the problem. While legally your pirate clients may be able to do what they are doing, morally... you have fucked up and are assisting in fucking over an entire industry.
Shame on every hosting company who provides a platform for pirate boards and known tube pirates. It is because of you many of these sites can exist. Without you, there would only be torrents and legal tube sites. If any of you valued long term business and/or morals OVER a few bucks, you would terminate accounts with multiple DMCA notices. Be it 10 or 100 notices, you create a threshold and when they cross it, they are gone. End of story. This is your business right to make this decision. This has nothing to do with hiding behind legal loopholes and everything to do with doing the right thing and changing your terms and business model. As more and more sites are closing, their servers are also shutting down. Maybe you have done the math and there are more pirate sites opening than legit sites closing. Maybe not. But I just wanted each and every one of you to know that you are part of the problem, just as those who make bullets are equally responsible as those who make guns and the stores that sell them. |
Unforunate
Unfortunately there are people who will make money any way they can... The argument of "Well I have to feed my family" shouldn't be "at the expense of 20 other families" because that's what happens. For every ONE free site that steals content and is making a little money is taking away from the girls, the directors, webmasters, legit hosters, etc

DWB I totally agree.
BTW I saw in your sig the link to RemoveYourContent.com and found on their site this statement: Quote:

My sex games for couples are all over the file sharing places. Every time I find one its a whole performance to get it removed. I take solace in the fact that the pirated versions of my games are usually teeming with viruses.

hey man, as a host i only provide the server space and bandwidth, what is done from there is not my problem unless some one reports it to me, i got 100 or so clients renting servers and as long as the feds are not knocking on my door and they pay their bills i dont check to see wtf they are doing.

So... according to what you just said, as long as the feds don't catch on and your clients pay their bills, I assume it's ok to host child porn with you too? And may I ask why you don't at least put your hosting company in your sig? Quote:
TakeDownPiracy.com does a good job too. |
they are a business not a charity.

Hosts are shitting in the faces of all the legit long term companies who have been with them over the years. They could make the right choice and actually help their long term customers if they wanted to, but they choose not to, and would rather get short term money from short term customers. |

They take on Customer Z at the expense of fucking Customers A - Y. It just doesn't make sense. |
I believe removeyourcontent is doing pretty well and moving into other areas...there are no shortage of scumtraps in mainstream and adult...
takedownpiracy and removeyourcontent are great services and indeed, neither are charities but both do a damn fine job. |

We should just list the hosting companies name here that promote piracy so we can black list them.

This seems like a fair and logical approach that should offer some protection for the one making the public accusation from libel and defamation complaints. You're also going to be doing the industry the service of informing other parties who may be unknowing victims of the same site which will increase the stack of complaints in front of said host. The more complaints the host has had submitted to them and does nothing about, the harder it becomes for them to detach themselves from the lawsuit that follows. A secondary effect of keeping such a public record of complaints submitted to these hosts, as well as an accurate public accounting of their response or lack thereof would be the ability to organize industry-wide (well, GFY.com-wide, which is about the same thing if you include all the lurkers) boycotts of those hosting services. :2 cents: Just a suggestion. It really does chap my butt that people who consider themselves 'business' folk are so ridiculously short-sighted. If the photographers and videographers can't afford to produce the content that these people are profiting from stealing anymore, everybody loses. Be well and happy humping. EDIT: Just for neatness and to avoid 'discrimination', I want to clarify that I include 'amateurs' who produce their own content for their own privately-held websites within my definitions of 'photographers' and 'videographers'. I've seen people get a bit prickly on this forum about their professions, so I wanted to make that inclusion. |

Do I really need to explain to you why your attitude fails on so many levels? If you had bothered to think before replying, you probably would have taken mental note of the fact that we as content owners ARE informing hosts... and the hosts are ignoring the complaints. And you might want to get into the habit of checking to see what it is that your small potatoes 100 clients are doing. You just invited a bunch of child porn forums to pop up on your servers with that attitude. Glad my site is not hosted with you. DWB, the reason why his company is not listed in his sig? ...my guess is like a lot of other people here, he is nothing more than an insignificant shit talking wanna-be with no actual business. GFY would do well to clean house of all who cannot verify really being in the business. Too many trolls here who already ARE verified as being in the business as it is. lol His homepage on his profile page points to http://ww.pervertco.com ...conveniently available for registration. As a host he is not even intelligent enough to register his home page? Fail AGAIN. |
