Why do we need to refurbish Mosques in Egypt?

WASHINGTON, D.C -- A Channel 2 Action News investigation found that the State Department is sending millions of dollars to save mosques overseas. This investment has received criticism as the United States makes an effort to slash nearly $4 trillion in government spending.Plenty of outrage following the announcement made Thursday afternoon by a government commission that suggested huge cuts to the budget, including eliminating the interest education for home mortgage.

This juxtaposed with United States investing millions to refurbish mosques as a good-will effort in Muslim countries has upset many taxpayer groups. The Channel 2 Action News investigation found a 1,300-year-old Egyptian mosque that was almost flooded by contaminated sewer water that is one of many ancient Cairo mosques and churches that were saved from destruction by the U.S. taxpayers.

This is part of a $770 million program to rebuild Cairo's sewer system, paid for by the U.S. State Department's USAID program."We are spending money we don't have. This is all on a gigantic credit card right now," said Jared Thomas, a taxpayer advocate.Millions more dollars have been sent to places like Cyprus. The State Department displays before and after pictures of mosques refurbished with U.S. tax dollars."I think it is very hard to explain to the American taxpayer right now whose having an extraordinary time paying bills and making ends meet that this is why we took this out of your paycheck, so we can fund this," said Thomas. The State Department declined a Channel 2 Action News request for an interview.

Because the American government doesn't work for the American people.

We live in a fascist society where the tax payer helps out big business and help appease their friends overseas while we pick up the tab.

Either that or give them a different reason not to be your enemy when their military is under the people's control. After all the US just did support the oppression of the Egyptian people for 30 years.

That would sound good..IF we had made a big deal out of it and it was being broadcast all over Egypt and the Muslim world that we were doing it.

But it's all hush-hush and secretive. Bet that money made it's way into Mubarek's pocket.

I read that he had it set up that it was the law that any company wanting to do business in Egypt (like say...oil companies) had to have a citizen of Egypt as their partner.

So guess who that "partner" always was? That's how the guy had billions in banks all over the world.

This is just more horseshit that the U.S. govt. does to steal our money. Raise taxes on us? Fuck that.

I would say drop a giant-ass bomb on the whole mess. That would be cheaper.

I say we hold out until we find a way to convert burned brown corpses into usable energy. You think coal burning electric plants would run well on malnourished 3rd world bodies?

Why the fuck have we been sending billions of dollars of aid and military hardware to Egypt?

Imagine if we send money to build Churches there. Holy shit.

why aid is given to any country is beyond me. they don't do shit for the US so why should the US do anything for them?

HomerSimpson 03-09-2011 10:31 AM

USAID is giving money (they don't have) to many countries...
I think it's a way of spreading "democracy" to the 3rd world countries...

US "aid" has been given to countries to force the worthless American currency on them.

That's how I ended up in Thailand. Headed off to Indiana and next thing you know, I'm in Bangkok. Still haven't figured it all out.
