Sad news.saw him and layne stanley (rip) play live back on 06/27/1991 Middletown, NY Orange County Fair Speedway with antrhax, megadeth, and slayer:Oh crap

Starr appeared on the third season of "Celebrity Rehab" back in 2009 -- and was arrested last month for felony possession of a controlled substance. Salt Lake City cops say he had 6 Xanax pills and 6 Opana (painkiller) pills when he was busted.

Starr was 44 years old.

Mike's dad tells reporters, "It's a terrible shock and tragedy."

UPDATE: Police tell us Starr's body was found in a Salt Lake City home today. Cops say they were called to the house at 1:42PM

DEA, did you grow up around Orange County, NY? I went to junior high and high school there and went to the Orange County fair many times especially for demolition derbys and a few concerts including Judas Priest, Whitesnake and others as a teenager back in the 80's.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 03-08-2011 09:12 PM

Truly sad news. :(

As I understand it, the cause of death has not been determined yet, although I suspect it is probably drug related.

Like so many others, Mike Starr tried shaking his addiction, but drug addiction is a hard beast to defeat.

"Dirt" is one of my favorite albums of all time. I'll have to put it on now...

He recently showed up on the latest Celebrity Rehab and encouraged them to stay clean, but it had been revealed that he had had relapses since he was on the show.

They don't get paid to be on that, they just receive free treatment. When he appeared a couple months ago he looked really good and said he'd been sober for six months.

of course they get paid, AND need the money. You think those losers just do it because they actually WANT rehab? LOL LOL LOL

yeah and like Heidi Fleiss, she was just there cause she wanted to be.

I was jamming some AIC today after I heard the news in loving memory and after awhile I wanted to die too.

I never realised how many of their songs are about dying.

bronco67 03-09-2011 08:20 AM

Listening to Unplugged right now, in his honor.

What a bummer. One of my favorite bands.

Far-L 03-09-2011 12:10 PM

Homegrown Video salutes AIC with proper devilhorns and a bic

Saw AIC with "Mooky Blailock" (became Pearl Jam) and a band called Sweetwater that a friend of mine played in at the Offramp in Seattle back when AIC had just been signed.

Amazing show, you could tell they were going to be huge rockstars with model girlfriends and expensive drug habits sooner than later... and later, the night was commemorated with a plaque at the EMP... probably needs to be replaced at this point with a commemorative tombstone.

Shane_2ptoh 03-09-2011 12:19 PM

yeah a real pity. it was kinda coming. like tupac etc, you live by the sword, you die by it. self fulfilling prophecy.

SomeCreep 03-09-2011 01:07 PM

link to story?

I guess the rehab didn't go too well

Alice in Chains bass player Mike Starr was "mixing" methadone and anxiety medication hours before he died ... this according to Mike's roommate.

The roommate tells TMZ ... Mike had been using methadone recently in an effort to get sober -- but he had also been taking medication to battle anxiety issues he had been suffering from since his arrest last month.

We're told Mike was doing a pretty good job managing his medication -- but according to Mike's roommate, Starr was "mixing" the meds Monday night .. just hours before he died.

Law enforcement sources tell us Mike's official cause of death has yet to be determined.

Starr's roommate added, "Mike was a beautiful person who was fighting to stay sober ... I am going to miss him greatly."
Sad... :(
