Why is there no looting in the wake of the Japan earthquake?
I saw this question asked at a FB feed. Interesting question. You'd think people would be quick to whip out the NECESSITY argument--specially in THIS case (nuclear meltdown, thousands of people stranded, food stocks wiped out, etc).

free tv's

let's not dance around the answer - no blacks and no white trailer trash in Japan. it's that simple.
i think the entire country of Japan should be put on a sex offenders list, but beyond their sexual perversions they are very civil and law abiding people. |
how do you know they aren't looting?
|
The Japanese are timid.
|
Everyone in Japan already has a camera and HD TV.

"Why is there no looting in the wake of the Japan earthquake?"
One thing is for sure, you will never see the lamestream media tackle this fascinating question.. |
only panties have been raided at this time
|
I once read a study saying that Japenese men have the lowest testosterone levels in the world. Apparently Brazilian men have the highest. It's far easier to be civilized without testosterone

Do they have ghettos in Japan?
|
I would guess that the reason for no looting in Japan is because there is sense of "unity" among the people more than in other countries, like the USA. Furthermore, Japan is mostly homogeneous society
In the US, there is a sense of "disenfranchisement" or an "us versus them" mentality. It can be black v white, mexican v. white, poor v. rich, etc etc. So it is easier to start looting when a person feels that it is time to "get mine". |

One thing about the Japanese is that they have pride in their homeland. They feel that anything that affects the country affects them and vice versa. Unlike the U.S. where every man, woman, and child are out for themselves first, in Japan it's country first...everything else second. The Japanese, and Asians as a whole, have an honor code that westerners couldn't even start to grasp. Other than Muslims, which are just fucking outright brainwashed, the Japanese are willing to sacrafice their own lives for their country. And it's not sacrificing as in "you may die if you go to war" but as in "dive your plane into this carrier, you're going to die" type of sacrificing. |

america = capitalism = greed

I think it is more a case of "individualism" than greed/capitalism.
Because Japan is as mush a Capitalistic nation as the USA. But the difference is the sense of individualism. People in the US view themselves on a different level compared to their own country/government. Maybe in Japan, the people view themselves in unison with their country/government. |
Because the areas hardest hit no longer exist to loot?

was formed. Some people looted Africa to get resources, land and slaves then came to America and looted the natives of everything. So monkey see monkey do. You're not looting because you already stole every fucking thing. :2 cents: |

A Japanese person caught stealing would personally lose face and be an embarrassment to their friends and family bringing disgrace on everybody related to them.
Usually, you only see shoplifting by foreigners in Japan, especially the Africans from what my friends tell me. |
They keep Japan for Japanese people so there is a strong sense of community. Crazy concept huh? Japanese people are A+ in my book.

Better question: why IS there such a thing as looting after a disaster in the usa.

its a third world country. File:US Poverty Rates.svg Poverty in the United States is cyclical in nature with roughly 13 to 17% of Americans living below the federal poverty line at any given point in time, and roughly 40% falling below the poverty line at some point within a 10-year time span. Poverty is defined as the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions.[1] Approximately 43.6 (14.3%) million Americans were living in poverty in 2009, up from 39.8 million (13.2%) in 2008.[2] |

When there, yes, how kind and meek and wonderful are all the people you come into contact with. But, believe me, they really don't like you! (For a start, as a Westerner, you have an awful body odor for their sensitive oriental nostrils). All those stories of wallets returned after being found in Tokyo metro are true....but they always miss out the bit that you must reward the finder with something equal to the contents. They are inherently racist...you only have to see how they depict foreigners on TV. They are an island, with all the attitudes that carries. Don't fall into the simplistic trap of seeing all through the eyes of the fleeting tourist. |
Because most Japanese people have a strong sense of honor and respect. These are concepts that are almost impossible to explain to most people nowadays.

you do know that girls had to have seperate carriages in the metro system so they dont get molested / raped on the way to work ?? wow! how honorable do some research on the honorable japanese mens daily antics .. and decide for yourself how (dis)respectfull they are Japanese have no respect for anything , not for themselves not for people from other countries, not for their own women, not for animals , not for .... just none whatsoever ... |

I would be willing to bet that my knowledge of Japanese history is just as good as yours........ I would guess our disagreement lies in us having different ideas about constitutes "honor" and "respect". |
Cultural difference I suppose would explain it. Not cool to be a common thief?
