Bizarre Problem. Tech Help. PLEASE!!!
I have a bizarre problem. I can not get to www.epochsystems.com from my pc. I could until a 2 days ago. I have done a tracert and it drops at a sprint server after about 11 hops. I spoke to my ISP, Videotron, in Montreal. They checked and it works for them and also tried on non-videotron connections and it worked as well. When they tried it from my IP address they dropped too. They said I should clear all my cookies which I reluctantly did and it still does not connect.
WHAT THE FUCK????? |
try clearing out your cookies and your cache files, plus (if you are using ie) in that same box there is a settings button, click that and ensure "check for newer versions of pages" is set to "automatically" or "everytime".

Oh my god! I thought I was the only one with this issue.
Sonomasnap, I'm having the same problem so if you figure it out I would greatly appreciate you passing the knowledge on to me. Thanks :) ICQ: 135956956 |

I had the same problem 2 years ago. For no reason, suddenly could not connect with some of my sites and message boards with my cable modem anymore, but it worked for them. Told them that I could not reach those sites with my cable modem but I could with my 56k modem. I also could not connect to my FTP also, wich was a pain in the ass having to transfer all my files with my 56k modem. After calling them like 2-3 times a day and threatening to cancel my service because they couldn't find the problem, they tried changing my ip address. It worked but now I couldn't reach other sites that was working before. I finally decided to go with Bell Sympatico (still having the cable modem just to test both of them). Everything was fine with the DSL service but the pings were not so good.. Anyway, like 2-3 weeks later, I could finally reach all my sites with Videotron. I called them and asked them what they did, of course the CSR was treating me like I was a complete idiot and told me I could not understand. Anyway, he told me that the DNS server was not updated.. WTF.. Damn Videotron.. Good luck.. You will need it.. |
just switched to xp yesterday but had the problem 2 days ago.

I've had that problem where I can't reach certain websites with my ISP, but the sites load fine if you use another connection.
No one on the tech support was able to fix the problem. After a few days, things returned to normal. Beats me what the problem is, but thankfully it clears up on its own. |
Amp has the answer for this. Something about formating a drive. Ask him, he knows for sure.
|
have you tried releasing and renewing your IP ... I know it sounds liek a dumb question, but it might help :thumbsup
|
IF you have a firewall... check there for banned sites/IPs... your site may be listed inadvertently... Black Ice is really good for that.
|
not behind a fire wall, and here is a stupid question to the "stupid question". What do you mean release my ip and renewing it.
|
Have you tried getting the page manually? It might tell you if the problem is in the network or in your browser.
Open a telnet window and connect to www.epochsystems.com on port 80. If there are no network problems, the connection should be established. Then type the following: GET / HTTP/1.1 Host: www.epochsystems.com Hit the enter key twice and see what happens. If you get a bunch of html, then there's no networking problem between your machine and epoch. If you're not able to establish a connection or the connection just hangs then there's something screwy going on. |
Here's another possiblity (unlikely since you said you're using xp). If the site is an https site, and you're using windows95 or older, you might not be able connect. There's something wrong with really old SSL libraries I think.

got network error, timeout using putty port 80.

Everyone, there is nothing he can do about it. It's not about a firewall, or proxy or WIN XP or aliens..
It's the ISP. I had the same problem 2 years ago. I couldn't connect to some sites using my cable modem with Videotron. But I could connect with my 56k modem and DSL modem. So it has NOTHING to do with any computer configuration.. IT IS THE ISP. Good night. |
I did read. So one question for clarification. Did it self resolve or did Videotron actually do something to solve the problem?
thanks. |
