i've been watching al jazeera news lately, it's not any better.

just as slanted as most any western news org, just from the other angle.

same deck of cards.

Next you are going to tell us Fox is slanted. Blasphemy.

PR_Glen 03-15-2011 01:54 PM

in all seriousness i don't trust a single one of them on the surface. i find that i have to dig a bit deeper and look at several different sources of info. everything is spun. even research documents, imo.

for television news though, i watch, with a grain of salt, bbc america. this weekend i watched a ton of cnn and was absolutely astounded by how poor they do news, and broadcasting in general. what a horrible channel.

the local paper is disturbing.. follow the money is generally a good rule of thumb

It's not slanted as much as it appears... you're looking for a left/right slant, when they aren't either. Outside of the States, most media is far far far more Socially bias, which in the States 'appears' to be a slanted, but for them it's not.

Now, reporters do select sides, but al jazeera reports from many various angles, they don't just select a single side. They'll also report many things you'll never see in mainstream media here...

End of the day, even if the report has a slant, your chances of getting more facts about a situation increases the moment you leave the media in this Country.

Fox, cnn, abc, ect... "report" events .. that's all they do. They don't investigate stories and verify them, before reporting them. Some sub shows they have do, but not the normal media guys. To me at least, that's why they all appear to suck here in the States. Forget a side, they just don't actually do reporting anymore.

All news is going to have a bias, you need to watch several to get an overall opinion of your own.

I have found that every single "news" media has a bias...so like you...I watch and read multiple "news" media and maybe...just maybe...somewhere in there there...may be some actual true facts. I...also find...like you...that "documentaries" also contain bias...so I try to watch a counter documentary...providing one exists.

When someone speaks of "truth"..."facts" etc. I find most "truth" and "facts" are in the eye of the beholder and their bias...or in mine.

I tend to watch CNN, but their online video streaming sucks donkey balls. I found Al Jazerra and it works great. Slightly slanted but nearly as bad as I thought.

You make it sound like you expected something different?

pornguy 03-15-2011 03:29 PM

People need to realize that its about money. Say and do what sells otherwise you are out of business.

Check out Listening Post on AlJ. It's a show that talks about how media is portraying current events, and how that affects the story itself. It's a great idea for a single show, much less a recurring one.
