My 13 yr old is an artist (pic)

So my daughter is 13 and wanted an all in one pc for Christmas, we spent a fortune on it on the promise she'd continue and work with it and not waste my money, those things aren't cheap. It is a touch screen and this is her very first full freehand drawing on it. She's been editing pics for over a year, this is her first totally freehand work.... I am so impressed and wanted to share it.

She just turned 13 in late January.

Horny Joe 03-16-2011 02:32 PM

Wow, very impressing! Better than some "pro" work I have seen. What equiptment do one need to make graphics like this? Photoshop and....

Tam 03-16-2011 02:39 PM

Gimp a gif image manipulation program and her mouse and hands on her touch screen computer, that's all. Makes me sick, I could never do this in a million years. lol

Not a typo, the right spelling was taken and that's her screenname on whatever site it is she goes to and learns this shit. lol

czarina 03-16-2011 02:41 PM

nice stuff, very talented. Congrats, tam!

Very talented, a little dark for a 13 year old to be thinking of imo but hey better than a pic of beiber!

RuthB 03-16-2011 03:04 PM

Wow Tam, you must be SO proud!! That is awesome! I know how excited you were to be able to get her that computer for Christmas. I can see why now!! :upsidedow

Man, doing art like that at 13, kudos to your daughter Tam. She's very talented! Kudos to you too for enabling her to advance her skills in something she enjoys! :thumbsup

Talented for sure, but she might want to see a psychiatrist or something... Thats a pretty gruesome pic for a 13 year old to come up with

fuzebox 03-16-2011 03:25 PM

Nice to see young people using the GIMP :)

The Duck 03-16-2011 03:28 PM

Great job there.

Because they see it on the streets, tv shows or at their own school everyday?

Not sure why so many of you think this is disturbing.

Regardless, she has talent Tam. I hope she continues with it!

spazlabz 03-16-2011 03:39 PM

Holy crap she has got insane skills!

Barry-xlovecam 03-16-2011 03:46 PM

impressive artwork at any age :thumbsup:thumbsup

Elli 03-16-2011 03:51 PM

Very impressive! She captures emotions and subtlety very well. As for being dark and disturbing, I don't think it's any more so than the gruesome war pictures boys were drawing in 5th grade class.

That sounds like something I would do. Give me a paint brush and I can play, but no faces........ I'd have the worst looking mess you've ever seen. Still life I am ok with. but if it has eyes, they are some creepy looking beings. lol

Spunky 03-16-2011 03:58 PM

Wow,she is very talented, she will have a great future I'm sure

CaptainWolfy 03-16-2011 03:59 PM

very impresive!

kane 03-16-2011 04:00 PM

that is very impressive. I took a bunch of art classes in high school and try as I might I never got to be anything more than below average. Keep encouraging her, that is very cool.

I did something similar only the video I saw made this bad ass looking cityscape. My version ended up looking terrible, like a bunch of colored blocks on the screen.

Tam 03-16-2011 04:04 PM

Thank so much for all your compliments. I am so proud of her. She found something she loves doing and she's doing it and that's all I can ever ask of any of my kids.

Having said that, she is not a dark spirited child, by no means. She is actually a very happy go lucky kid with brilliant ideas that come from so many different places.

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._8160796_n.jpg

More of her work... she doesn't need a psychiatrist, she needs more nurturing for who and what she is... that's all this kid needs. :)

DangerX !!! 03-16-2011 04:31 PM

She reminds me kinda... Lisbeth Salander.

wow, she kind of does, I had never heard of her before and neither had my daughter, I showed her this girl's pics. lol

Django 03-16-2011 05:23 PM

She's an artist. paintings represent the contrast between light and dark.

Tam 03-16-2011 08:04 PM

Thanks so much guys and gals, seriously.

I read all of your comments to her..... she's not allowed on GFY..... and she says to express her sincere gratitude and thanks. She values all opinions, but I think from a 13 year old to get this much acceptance from adults really made her feel very good.

I also told her that with this bunch, if you didn't like her work, you would have damn well let it be known.

So thank you.. seriously!! :thumbsup

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 03-16-2011 08:32 PM

Meh, it's really not that dark. That's the little emo girl thing to do. Skulls and bones, vampires, sunken eyes and slitting your wrists has been the trendy teenage girl thing for damn near a decade now...

plsureking 03-16-2011 08:37 PM

only 5 more years until she gets sucked into this hell hole !

CDSmith 03-16-2011 09:01 PM

She's very talented. I fancied myself as somewhat of an artist in my younger days, but no matter how hard I worked at it I never could master the human face. Couldn't get the eyes right, or "see" the proper lighting spots nor get the iris's to look even close to real. So I mostly stuck to animals, landscapes, and space drawings.

then I turned 8 and started hockey. :D

She's got a future there, no doubt. Definitely worth encouraging. That first one did strike me as a little dark for a 13 yr old but you know her best. It could very well be she simply has a fantastically broad imagination to go with her artistic talent... which is always a good thing.

martinsc 03-16-2011 09:30 PM

very nice for her age! if she keeps that direction - she'll go far :thumbsup

It's a gruesome pic for a person of any age. Peace and less violence is sure the ideal situation.

LexiLexxx 03-16-2011 10:07 PM

irwin99, ur a tard!

Love the work Tam! OMG, I want one done of me, that I can frame. Wicked skills, she's got.

GARY LEE 03-16-2011 10:17 PM

That's one thing that I always wish I could do and that's draw. I'm shitty even at stickmen. Congrats to you for having a daughter with so much talent. If she markets herself as well as she draws she'll be rich.

shermo 03-16-2011 11:22 PM

AMAZING work for your daughter to have put together. Great use of composition, lighting and expressions to convey tone. She could have a real future in the art world if she stays motivated!

To those that say this is too dark for a 13 year old...Look back at your childhood: Were you still playing with Barbies or whatever you played with when you were 6? 13 is a year before, or the year of freshman year in high school depending on your birthday. Generally kids tend to mature around this time.

Serge Litehead 03-16-2011 11:52 PM

Nice work!
If she continues at it and decides to peruse career in arts field, http://cooper.edu/ is one of the best schools around for arts as well architecture and engineering. Very tough to get in. All admitted receive full-tuition scholarship.

She is doing pretty damn good at that too. She is a member of this place called IMVU and she's kept her membership up for more than a year now just with mostly her art work. She started out editing templates and has built herself up to this and she does work for other members. She entered a contest yesterday and came in 2nd out of like 300 people who entered... so she has a few marketing skills.

The best thing about that is she is learning business skills as well here... she started out buying the templates with her points and she'd edit them, sell them and when she gets paid, she knows she had to pay x-amount for the template, she marks it up with her touches on it and then makes x-amount for herself. In doing this, she has kept her membership up for more than a year. If she needs x-amount of points to buy what she needs for her "property" then she knows she has to work for it.

She is learning a lot of skills she is going to need..... :thumbsup

holograph, I've bookmarked this link, thanks a lot for that. ;)

That makes perfect sense. The first thing I thought of when I saw her work was those "Cartoon Yourself" banners you see everywhere...
