Meteor Strikes Japan

This is an experiment I started about an hour ago. Can anyone spot it?

camperjohn64 03-16-2011 07:01 PM

Close but that's not it. It's just a fake page of links.

But...what else?

It's actually working...

fatfoo 03-16-2011 11:10 PM

That is sure a huge meteor. It would be interesting to see a video of the real impact captured by a satellite from space at angle of view.

Are you sure you haven't been hit to the head by huge meteor? :1orglaugh

Not even funny to make that kind of experiments when this shit is happening to those poor people :(

loreen 03-17-2011 03:43 AM

Maybe you'll get some extra bucks, but Karma is watching :)

It's in poor taste.

I don't really like the idea

camperjohn64 03-17-2011 06:08 AM

Ok well nobody picked it up. Here it is: I have seen pages that get massive "Likes" on Facebook, and get 10,000 visitors in their first 3 days. I made this page using the same technique I saw - a 1x1 pixel, that is directly under your cursor that contains an iFrame of the like button. Anybody that clicks, automatically "Likes" it.

But in about the first 8 hours there were only 20 likes on the page. This means only 20 people have tried to click on the image. I thought there would be more...

The content doesn't matter - it's just an attention grabber - it's the 1x1 iframe that I have seen elsewhere that I tried to emulate.

This leaves me wondering how the other sites can get so much traffic so fast. What are they doing differently?

they are probably not using japan tragedy as a test. if you start trending in likes i bet FB catches on and cans you so you at least should have good content.

Yes I think you're right. The Facebook likes I saw were "I can't believe this girls is doing this!" with a picture of some blurry girls ass. I will probably try that next and see what results I get.

Most of the tests I saw were deleted after ~16,000 likes, so Facebook does catch on, but I am not looking for long term value - I am looking for 50 sales...it's not really a career decision. :-)

Already posted a few days ago :)

theloller 03-17-2011 06:51 AM

i think you should use a title like:

"all pornstars are aliens and they're taking our soul"

you could have gozillions of visits in minute :)

That has to be one of the worst detours of the concept of "karma" during this whole nuclear crisis :/ :1orglaugh ...

CamJack 03-17-2011 07:34 AM

It's weird how people are so disassociated with this because it is NOT in the US.

well maybe you may want to not just think short term. for example there is another post about japan porn stars being alive and well. it is positive and lots of people may like it which could be a good chance to cash in on it :) and maybe good enough for facebook to not see it as spam. who knows

good luck with your tests.
