Libyan officials today on CNN asking the US for military intervention, air strikes etc
Libyan ambassador was on CNN earlier today asking for military aid from the US and the world, as was some other high-up expatriot from there. The second guy sounded like he was on the brink of demanding it actually, citing other times the US has "shown it's teeth" such as the Kosovo-Serb intervention.
They're in a state of civil war in Libya right now. Ghadafi's got his tanks and planes and a good chunk of his army, while the people seem to be armed mostly with small arms and automatic weapons at most, driving around in toyota half-tons and such. Unless there is some sort of intervention it's going to be a major slaughter. But how do you feel about this? Do you think a US-led coalition should be organized as has been done before, and they go in and kick Ghadafi's ass? Or perhaps you're feeling that these same people of Libya were the same ones who, along with millions of other N Africans and mideasterners, were hating on America and often in the news seen dancing in the streets burning US flags and such, and now as is often typical they are crying out for help from the good ol' USA? I must say I'm a bit torn in both directions, but when it comes down to it one has to admit this may be a great opportunity for the "evil west" to win over a lot of Libyans (and others in the region) by helping them. At the very least I think they should probably get busy on enforcing a no-fly zone there, but I think it's going to come to far more outside involvement than just that. Any thoughts? |
Fuck Libya. Let them sort their own shit out. :2 cents:

Daddy America should sit this one out, that continent has been and will continue to be fought over forever.

I'd be all for a US-led invasion, except for the problem that "help" comes with a price, and usually a pretty large one. If the US helps out militarily, the Libyan people will be paying for it for a good time to come.

And who exactly should we be backing? Remember when the big bad Shaw of Iran was de-throned .... how did that work out for everyone? Myself and most Americans are to ignorant of the facts to act either way ... Let this one play out.

People bitch about the US being the world's police but when the shit hits the fan anywhere in the world nobody does nothing, everybody waits to see what the good'ol US is going to do first so that they can then decide what to do.
