Tell your children that you love them everyday because they could be gone tomorrow....

So grateful for the health and well being of my 3 year old pain in the butt daughter and my cute 8 month old son.

Cherish what you got, while you got it, because it could be taken away from you tomorrow.:2 cents:

Both were almost taken from me yesterday in a bad car accident that my girlfriend was in.

Both kids were taken to the hospital and are back with me today as I type this.

Strange story: This escalade pulled out in front of her and slammed on the brakes. She slammed into it and pushed into another truck.

Here is the strange part; the SUV my girlfriend hit, the driver got out of the SUV and ran away, leaving her car in the middle of the road. Witnesses said that he looked drunk.

The other issue was that the taillights were blacked out and the cop stated that they are illegal to have on their car and could not be seen when the car braked.

The car was left just like that during the scene of an accident, I really wanted to steal that shit or put a bat through the window.

Will find out in the next few days if they found the drunk girl who was driving the white SUV. Jail time for leaving the scene of an accident over $500 Ouch!

Generally, it will be my insurance paying out, but these few little odd factors, may mitigate the amount my insurance pays out.

At the end of the day, my kids are OK and for that i'm grateful. Shit for the gift of my 2 kids health, they can take and smash the other 2 cars I have for all that i care.

Another pic of both triggered airbags from the inside of the cab, passenger side of my truck.

The driver of the Escalade ran home and reported their vehicle stolen. He/She wont get any jail time over this.

MaDalton 03-24-2011 05:37 PM

glad to hear your family is ok, Dave!

this should also remind everyone to wear seatbelts and put children in special seats for kids

I totally agree with you.

But could you imagine the hysterical 3 minute call i got from my girl before showed up to the scene?

Could not make out what my girl was saying what so ever and fire fighter got on the phone and said i need you to come down now to this XYZ intersection now. Then hung up.

I was like WTF?? So i went and saw all of the emergency vehicles blowing red lights past me to that location. My heart sank. Started dry heaving in my car at the red. Then i caught 2 more reds and saw the intersection from the distance with all of the emergency vehicles. Threw up my coffee and bagel before i got there.

Was praying "Please don't let me see 2 white sheets covering 2 little bodies, Please, Please, please!!". And i don't pray.

The most difficult 8 min. of my life. You cant even imagine, unless you have kids. And even then, you don't want to.:2 cents:

I am so happy for you that no one was seriously injured. I still tell my sons (almost) daily that I love them very much... at 15 and 21 I get some strange looks back occasionally, but my boys know they are loved

The fire fighters were quick to through dirt over the gas that was leaking out of the trucks engine block.

There were 15 people that saw what happened. Everyone thought the car was going to blow up.

My girl rushed to get my 8 month old son out of truck placing him 5 feet away. Then ran back to grab my 3 year old daughter. She ran them to the curb, the went back to the truck to shut down the engine that was still running and making a horrible sound.

I got my family out of there as fast as i could and i took care of everything that needed to be taken care of.

I had men and women all telling me that they thought that the truck was going to catch fire. And that it would have if my girlfriend had not gone back a 2nd time to shut the engine off.

The truck was cool, and i liked it, but I will take my families safety any day of the week.:thumbsup

Yea, i canceled everything for the week and have been doing that every 4 minutes of the day all day. My daughter must think i'm a nut.

You cant tell your kids enough that you love them.:thumbsup

NaughtyRob 03-24-2011 07:05 PM

Holy shit Dave, glad they are ok. I have a 3 yr old son and a 20 year old son. I can see how you must have been extremely worried.

Jay-Rock 03-24-2011 07:14 PM

Glad everyone is ok man Chevy trucks are built tough for stuff like this.

baddog 03-24-2011 07:59 PM

Chevy trucks are built Ford tough. :)

Glad all is well. I can imagine the panic. Made me think back to two Father's Days ago when my son and I were out for a ride and he went down. I did not know what happened except that suddenly the 405 had no traffic. I had a feeling something was wrong so pulled over, when some lady pulled up and told me about the terrible bike crash, with the red bike.

My heart sunk. While I am sure it only took me 5-8 minutes to get back to him, it felt like it took forever.

And I love those blacked out tail lights. I know they would look great on my car, but that is the reason I never got them.

alias 03-24-2011 08:03 PM

Nerve wracking, glad to hear everyone is ok.

Shit, i bet you cannot possibly describe those 5-8 min. to anybody other than to someone who has a child.

I can tell you one thing for sure, having a child and or having a child in a dangerous situation, will really help you think and rethink what is really important and what is nothing.:2 cents:

All and all, things may have been bad yesterday, but i look at it as the very best day of the year, my kids are still alive. Sounds corny, but you with kids do understand.

no doubt. hey were they in car seats or what? i saw the airbags.

my wife hardly ever uses the car seat. always wants to hold our boy or sit him on the passenger seat. i'll be sharing this story for sure.

Car seats 100%.

The kids were strapped down in the back. If they were not in their car seats, they would have been killed.

I highly recommend the next time your wife wants to hold your boy instead of putting him in a car seat, don't move the car. Put your foot down on that one. Accidents are never planned, they just happen.

That is sound advice from one father to another.:thumbsup

man, show her some videos... NO ONE is able to hold and protect a kid in an accident as soon the car is faster than 15 mp/h. car seats are the only way to go - and i have been in an accident as a kid

If it is true your children are in danger every time they leave the house with you 2. (since you obviously let her get away with it.).

They would hang 2 parents here for this type of neglect.

I'd recommend calling the police on her, and then committing her, this is absurd.

Davy 03-25-2011 06:07 AM

What? The rear end of the car is the car your girlfriend hit?
Wow. Makes you wonder why your own car folded up so much.

TheyPullMeBackIn 03-25-2011 06:08 AM

so sorry dude that sucks

Icy 03-25-2011 06:09 AM

So happy to read they are fine.

I lost my first daughter 5 years ago just after a week after she was born and it's the worst thing that can ever happen to you. So i already tell my 3 years old son how much i love him several times per day and try to enjoy every minute i can with him.

its way too much to risk. take the extra 5 minutes and put in the in the car seat, and make sure you do i properly! lots of people don't use the car seat as they should.

when an airbag deploys and your wife is holding your child, he/she will most likely be killed. there is a reason why its illegal to have kids under a certain age/weight in the front, airbags are lethal to kids. not to mention, even if there was no airbag, the child would be severely injured from your wife crushing into him/her.

i belive vehicles are designed so that front impact crashes absorb a lot of the force by crushing the front end using points that are supposed to bend on impact.

buzzard 03-25-2011 06:26 AM

Accidents suck. My daughter had her lexus totaled a few months ago while sitting to make a left turn, a 15 year old kid ran into the back of her with a 3/4 ton van going over the speed limit. The Kid had no license and no insurance. She was in pain for months.

By the looks of your truck, whoever pulled out in front of your girlfriend is dealing with some BigTime whiplash.

Am glad everyone is OK there Dave.

CarlosTheGaucho 03-25-2011 06:26 AM

Damn, glad to hear everyone is all right Dave!

pornguy 03-25-2011 06:33 AM

Good to hear the kids were not hurt

Rochard 03-25-2011 06:35 AM

We out to dinner in an area that was unfamiliar to me, and on the way back I had to take an on ramp to get on the freeway to head to my house. I so rarely take this freeway, it was pouring raining and I couldn't see shit, and this big 18 wheeler was blocking my view of where I thought the on ramp was. Turns out I missed the on ramp and suddenly found myself in that no man's land between the freeway and the on ramp - no pavement, raining, at 60 mph. Then I discovered I was driving right into a concrete divider.

Scared the piss out of me.

Glad your kids are ok.

Godsmack 03-25-2011 06:35 AM

Man, glad they are ok!!

Only the thought of losing one of my children drives me mad...

You are so right. Car seats are mandatory under 75 pounds in California. Every time my kids get put in them they are checked and double checked. Would hate to have an accident and one of my children died as a result of my child's safety seat was not correctly installed or came loose over time because i was to lazy to check it. It would be shity to live with that type of "should of, would have, could have" feeling.

This is a pretty horrible thing to type into this thread, but hopefully it may make her see some sense, and possibly save a life one day: with some work on google you could probably find something that may make her change her mind. :2 cents:

There's NO way you can hold onto a child in an accident... they'll hit the dash, or the airbag, and possibly fly out through the windscreen.

You need to knock some sense into your wife and point out what bad things could happen, even in a relatively minor accident. Refuse to move off if she's holding your child...
