Robbed!

I loaded up my gear for a shoot and left my car unattended for 15 minutes getting ready to take off for my Met Art shoot this morning. I locked it up but apparently the back window was cracked enough for the robber to reach in somehow and unlock my car. He left my wallet full of money but took my Garmin and photo backback that was full of high priced lenses and 2 camera bodies. This is indeed a fucked up day, I was going to shoot for Met Art today but now I am filing a police report and hopefully my renters insurance will cover me since they did it right in my driveway.

Si 03-28-2011 11:06 AM

That sucks! :(

MaDalton 03-28-2011 11:07 AM

jeeez, that sucks :(

never leave anything valuable visible in the car

and keep an eye on ebay and craigslist, it might lead you to the culprit

RuthB 03-28-2011 11:08 AM

wow that sucks big time :(

alexchechs 03-28-2011 11:10 AM

Fuck man, so sorry to hear.

Scott McD 03-28-2011 11:11 AM

Hope your insurance sorts you out...

pornguy 03-28-2011 11:12 AM

Really sorry to hear that.

DangerX !!! 03-28-2011 11:14 AM

Sorry to hear that man, first you had sever problems now this... but, don't worry, those are only material things, what is more important is inside of you.

Damn That Sux! :( Sorry to hear :(

punker barbie 03-28-2011 11:21 AM

Brutal. Not a good way to start the week.

I had a friend who had his car broken into while running into fed ex and they stole his Rolex (he planned later in the day to get it fixed), a camera, a cell phone, and his wallet. Nothing was in clear view. He filed a police report and later that week when he logged on to his T-Mobile account he noticed the thief's made calls from his stolen phone. He was able to get the information to the cops and they actually arrested the 2 girls AND after a search warrant of the girls homes he got everything returned.

Good luck!!!!

Nikki_Licks 03-28-2011 11:21 AM

Sorry to hear you lost you gear, that would send most of us into orbit.

Hopefully you will get the insurance to cover it....:thumbsup

JD 03-28-2011 11:22 AM

damn man :( Been there before but it was all of my car audio stuff.

Rochard 03-28-2011 11:23 AM

I've never had anything stolen from my car. I keep my car empty of stuff. The only thing in my car is the CDs in the CD player, and the registration in my glove compartment. Nothing else, ever.

candyflip 03-28-2011 11:23 AM

My homeowner's insurance has covered this.

I've had a few friends with renter's insurance get taken care of and one who didn't. His window was open.

justinsain 03-28-2011 11:27 AM

Sorry to hear that. It's one of a photographers worst nightmares. I hope you get it all worked out. Sucks that it happened in your own driveway.

When I go on surf trips to places like Costa Rica I carry all my photo equipment in one bag and never let it leave my sight. My buddies think I'm crazy when I use it for my pillow when sleeping. :)

_Richard_ 03-28-2011 11:29 AM

sorry to hear :(

BlackCrayon 03-28-2011 11:31 AM

either bad timing or someone you knew did it.

TheDA 03-28-2011 11:38 AM

I'd be surprised if insurance covered it, but who knows, different country different rules.

I would have thought there would have been a clause requiring you to take all reasonable precautions to ensure the car was secure in the first place.

cooldude7 03-28-2011 12:10 PM

this sucks, insurance will cover up things .,

JimmyStephans 03-28-2011 12:14 PM

Sorry to hear it buddy. Just plain sucks. Come back and let us know how the insurance deal works out... and if thats goes good, the name of the company that did things right.

PR_Glen 03-28-2011 12:15 PM

took the bag and left the wallet? doesn't sound like an average thief to me, sounds like someone who knew exactly what kind of equipment you have and new it wouldn't be worth it to grab anything else.

Roald 03-28-2011 12:16 PM

Damn, hate that shit.

iSpyCams 03-28-2011 12:18 PM

I only had my car broken into once and some asshole broke a $400 window to steal a $20 jacket and a $10 cd player.

After that I never lock my car. Not locking it reminds me not to leave anything in there.

KickAssJesse 03-28-2011 12:21 PM

DAMN! Sorry to hear about that...

DeanCapture 03-28-2011 12:22 PM

Jay, sorry to hear about your loss!

I can loan you a body & lens if this is an emergency situation and you need a system right away. I'm in Hollywood - you can swing by and pick it up any time. I'll need it back in a few days but if you need something right now - it's here!

Lemme' know.....

Jay-Rock 03-28-2011 12:43 PM

Thanks for the offer Dean your a good man but I will probably rent a setup from Samy's for the day if I can get my usual setup. I need to get one last shoot in for Phoenix forum.

Far-L 03-28-2011 12:52 PM

good luck from Homegrown Video

Completely sorry to hear that. Hope you get it covered.

stephane76 03-28-2011 12:54 PM

sorry to hear, that fucking sucks

spunky99 03-28-2011 12:54 PM

damn that sucks, hope insurance comes through for ya

xenigo 03-28-2011 01:26 PM

I'm uber-paranoid with my gear in the car. I don't let my eye off the car when my stuff is in it. For instance, if I go to Starbucks before the shoot... I park only where I can maintain eye contact with the car... or I don't go in.

Hindsight. Sorry about your loss, Jay.

MrMaxwell 03-28-2011 01:34 PM

I hope whoever stole your shit gets murdered!

brassmonkey 03-28-2011 01:42 PM

dude most likely inside job. someone looking for quick cash wouldn't just take the photo stuff. my two cents how would they even know they were worth something?

magicmike 03-28-2011 01:48 PM

That sucks, pawn shops, cl etc, are good places to check for your stuff back from the thief.

Vendzilla 03-28-2011 01:48 PM

I had my Jeep broke into once, I called Verizon and they gave me the numbers that were called. One was a friend that was a little how shall I say, not someone that wants to be tied to a stolen phone, he got my phone back with in an hour. I think the guy that took it got his ass beat!

Didn't you lose a crap load of content earlier this year? Not a good year!

fuzebox 03-28-2011 01:54 PM

Man that sucks :( And people think I'm paranoid when I won't leave shit in the car, park in front of store windows, etc.

Elli 03-28-2011 02:05 PM

shitty deal, that's a nightmare :( Sorry to hear about your luck.

I am pretty adamant about parking where I can see my car when I have valuables in it like that, but it sounds like it was just a 'run back in to grab something' situation in your own driveway. Nobody expects that :(

twistyneck 03-28-2011 02:25 PM

That sucks. What kind of shithole town do you live in where you can't leave anything unattended for 15 minutes?

same here, I'm over paranoid and had some shit stolen a few years ago from a locked car when I was heading south on a trip. Did not realize until we went to check in at the hotel that we had no fucking bags.

that completly SUCKS!!! hope it works out for you... you nikon? might be able to loan you some glass

CYF 03-28-2011 02:47 PM

Your insurance might not cover photo equipment that's used for business or professional use.

Matyko 03-28-2011 02:54 PM

i hope your insurance will cover everything.
some nice comments in this thread, there are still good people @ gfy :pimp
