Rolling Stone KILL TEAM story..anyone read this?

Early last year, after six hard months soldiering in Afghanistan, a group of American infantrymen reached a momentous decision: It was finally time to kill a haji.

Among the men of Bravo Company, the notion of killing an Afghan civilian had been the subject of countless conversations, during lunchtime chats and late-night bull sessions. For weeks, they had weighed the ethics of bagging "savages" and debated the probability of getting caught. Some of them agonized over the idea; others were gung-ho from the start. But not long after the New Year, as winter descended on the arid plains of Kandahar Province, they agreed to stop talking and actually pull the trigger.

Bravo Company had been stationed in the area since summer, struggling, with little success, to root out the Taliban and establish an American presence in one of the most violent and lawless regions of the country. On the morning of January 15th, the company's 3rd Platoon ? part of the 5th Stryker Brigade, based out of Tacoma, Washington ? left the mini-metropolis of tents and trailers at Forward Operating Base Ramrod in a convoy of armored Stryker troop carriers. The massive, eight-wheeled trucks surged across wide, vacant stretches of desert, until they came to La Mohammad Kalay, an isolated farming village tucked away behind a few poppy fields.

Better to kill them over there so we.... don't.... have to ... kill them... here?

But really, they are murdering countless civilians (and "insurgents") anyway via collateral damage and drones. This shouldn't be much of a shock. These sick fucks just got caught playing their own game instead the game that was handed down to them to play.

Morlock told the judge he pleaded guilty in hopes of receiving a lesser sentence. The defendant, who could have been sentenced to life in military prison without the possibility of parole, agreed to testify against other soldiers.

Morlock must now serve the remainder of a 24-year prison sentence and could be paroled in seven years. The judge counted the year Morlock has already spent in confinement toward his sentence and parole eligibility date.

Morlock's attorney, Frank Skinner, told the court his client "has admitted responsibility for what he did."

Maybe, the firing squad or hanging would have been better ???

Drag him and whoever else is guilty out back and put one in their head and call it a day. I don't think many would object. Save the tax dollars of keeping them incarcerated for 24 years.

Why the outrage? These guys volunteered for a job where they're expected to kill people, so why get upset when they actually kill people?

theking 03-28-2011 04:05 PM

Really nothing new...in all conflicts all sides that are engaged...some of the combatants commit crimes and sometimes even against their own. Some are caught and pay a price...some are not.

Tempest 03-28-2011 04:10 PM

Train them to kill and then let them sit around with not much to do and the daily "promise" of doing what they were trained to do... Well what do we all expect?

This has happened in every war, with every nations military, in every generation.

Nothing compared to what the Greeks would do when conquering a people.

No excuse for it no matter who it is.

if you don't know the difference between a combat with an armed enemy and murdering an innocent civilian I feel very sorry for you. and soldiers who go on their private killing spree do not belong in the army, they belong in prison.

besides that: things like 9/11 happen because of this attitude

DBS.US 03-28-2011 05:06 PM

Afghanistan poppy farmers make heroin. Models use heroin then sleep all day and miss shoots. Content producers have to still pay crews. Content producers have to pass the cost to the website owners who have to pass the costs to the consumer.

I know the difference... I was questioning the display of outrage. And what's the difference between the cold-blooded murder of an "innocent civilian" and killing civilians with a misplaced bomb, artillery round, or bullet? Either way innocent civilians end up dead.

I guess my point was "war is hell" and atrocities are part of that hell.

The Greeks??? They were a bunch of pantywaists compared to the Mongols: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikiped...dad_%281258%29

"A number of inhabitants ranging from 100,000 to 1,000,000 were massacred during the invasion of the city, and the city was sacked and burned. Even the libraries of Baghdad, including the House of Wisdom, were not safe from the attacks of the Ilkhanate forces who totally destroyed the libraries, and used the invaluable books to make a passage across Tigris River[citation needed]. As a result Baghdad remained depopulated and in ruins for several centuries, and the event is conventionally regarded as the end of the Islamic Golden Age."

or any Asian culture or black culture or American Indian culture etc...

MaDalton 03-28-2011 06:20 PM

it's not a point what happened 50, 100 or 1000 thousand years ago...

we "western" cultures dare to go out there and conquer countries in the name of democracy and freedom. we should lead by example. or shut the fuck up and leave them alone

georgeyw 03-28-2011 06:31 PM

The problem is, these guys would be subjected to all kinds of gore - that is bound to cause these soldiers some sort of mental inbalance.

I do not like nor agree with war or violence at all, however I think it would be really tough to put these guys in jail for this. Crimes yes, but you have to remember where they are and what they're doing.

there's a difference between soldiering, and just being a sociopath.

There's something even sicker about the whole situation, knowing that the sociopaths found each other, and were able to do this sick shit together.

NikKay 03-29-2011 07:41 AM

I'm seriously disturbed by some of the laissez faire attitudes in this thread.

Cops are trained to kill too, but I don't see any pictures of cops posing with
dead people that they murdered.

:2 cents:

I also don't see any pics with the other 100k+ troops in Afghanistan doing
that.

Cops are trained to "protect" and that's their primary responsibilty. Grunts are trained to kill and that's their primary responsibilty. Huge difference in the mindset.
