Im looking for something that will let me know when someone enters my property or something like that...

got any good urls?

I have my security system setup to email my phone when it detects movement. I assume most of them will do that nowadays, as long as you get one that is internet enabled. It also has GSM backup so it can make a phone call if the internet is down.

I also have IP cameras installed so I can login and view my cameras from my phone. I use this program:

The camera setup is the cheapest way to go. Internet enabled alarm system will cost you about $1000 to get just a basic setup with a couple motion detectors, outdoor siren, etc. The best part is you can just keep adding shit to it. If you want to do it all yourself then a Visonic powermax pro is an easy to setup system, all wireless and DIY. Can also be professionally monitored if you want.

I'm sure there are plenty of good choices though, just depends on what you want to spend.

It is a visonic powermax pro. When I bought mine, it came with the gsm and internet module already installed. Now it appears they are selling it in a different package where you need to buy the internet module separately, so you would need these two items to get started:

I also added a couple extra wireless motion detectors, an additional keypad to disarm it when I come home, a wireless outdoor siren, and 2 keyfobs that I can use to arm and disarm the system. you can add as much crap as you want, including smoke and water detectors, etc.

It is a good idea to install the main unit someplace secure (I put mine in a locked closet), which is also where I moved my router and modem so thieves can't just start unplugging shit.

You can get a lot better systems (Elk M1 Gold is amazing), but for a DIY with limited wiring skills the Visonic is hard to beat.

how does it make cell calls? only land line or you need to put in working gsm sim card?

yes, you need to add a sim card for it to make the cellular calls. Or it will work fine over your plain old telephone line if you don't want to mess with that.

if phone line is cut outside then land line is useless along with internet warning messages, so the only thing i see good is wireless cell calls... about the sim card, you can just plugin any working sim card from any provider and it will work ?
