One of my Aunts needs a Kidney..but wont take one from her kids or relatives...

We got her a donor here in NY but tbh WTF???

People that have children here and were in this situation and the kids and/or relatives are a match would you accept it?

I still dont understand her reasoning tbh :2 cents:

She doesn't want someones else's quality of life to suffer because of her, she must be a strong women.

I for one would accept a kidney from a family member, only if it was the last option for me.

What the hell is the point of even making kids if you can't use them for spare parts??

Before the govt here banned it, your aunt could have gotten a kidney from an exact match donor for less than $2K. The real expense ($23K) is from the hospital and the doctor. Such deals got banned cuz the government wanted to "protect" paid donors. Maybe they should have focused instead on having the donors get paid better and get better after procedure health services and monitoring. Would have gone a long way in alleviating poverty and bringing in much needed capital. Oh well. The funny politics of "pride" has to win the day I guess.

Try reading the long list of symptoms of being a donor and living with 1 kidney.

Like no softdrink for the rest of your life. Not a simple decision.

Actually you might have read something like this:

http://www.transplantbuddies.org/lib...Donations.html

This chick is not a doctor and none of her information is taken from studies of kidney donors. In fact, her information is taken from websites that have the same guidelines for people with both healthy kidneys and don't even discuss having one kidney.

The remaining kidney will enlarge and do more work than it did previously to the donation.

You can still drink soda, but if you are a hardcore soda drinker you should consider not donating and if you are a hardcore soda drinker with diabetic history in your family you should consider the fact that you are most likely going to need a kidney and stop drinking soda as a premium choice for refreshment. Or as my mom says, "Grow the fuck up!"

You don't need to change your diet provided you eat a regular diet. If you are eating a fad diet it is just common sense that you shouldn't be in the first place, and instead, should be making lifestyle changes, such as increased exercise.

Aspirin taken in the correct dosage will not damage your kidney.

Additionally, most people that lead an unhealthy lifestyle that includes heavy soda drinking, smoking, alcohol abuse, etc will not be accepted as a donor... So it's a moot point.

she know family would be the best chance for a match for her?

it would make more sense for her to take from family and open up the donor for someone not so lucky

i hear there are some pretty cheap kidneys in India\Malaysia\Thailand

A relative of mine, male, 27 ... accepted the kidney from his elder brother. They got operated last week.

I am fine with it and actually encouraged them. They are 5 brothers and 3 of them are of same blood group. So in case the donor need one kidney at later stage, they still have 1 bother who can donate.

Wish they both live long.

Soda drinking = hardcore abuse on the body. Tons of sugar AND salt. Salt is what makes you crave soda/feel thirstier
