Popular bands you can't stand

The first that comes to mind to me are the Blackeyed Peas. I have tried, really I have tried. However, I just don't get why they are so popular.

What bands/artists do you not 'get' that most other people appear to love?

CaptainHowdy 03-31-2011 12:48 PM

U2 .......

PR_Glen 03-31-2011 12:50 PM

metalica, acdc, nickelback, creed

i'll admit that last two is much worse than the first two but I never understood the fascination of metalica or acdc. Probably because i haven't spent a lot of my time in a trailer park over the years ;)

NaughtyRob 03-31-2011 12:50 PM

Blackeyed Peas are annoying the many of the songs stick in your head and are good.

I hate: Rihanna all her songs sound the same, Justin Bieber annoying as can be.

Sarah_Jayne 03-31-2011 12:50 PM

All of U2 or the most recent stuff? I would agree with you on the stuff from the last five years or so.

Si 03-31-2011 12:57 PM

all of the above

dyna mo 03-31-2011 12:58 PM

hmmmmmmmmm, i rly feel like i should have an answer to this, but i don't.

Metallica ain't too bad, and ACDC made 1 song I like.

But I agree, I think it isn't so much the bands but the people who like them that I can't stand :upsidedow

pretty much. new rock is a bunch of whiney emo bitches. "pop" music i've always hated, its buiness not music and rap is horrid these days too. its a very weak time for music.

rly? i've been listening to the digital pop music channel and like a lot of the songs they are playing.

dyna mo 03-31-2011 01:07 PM

maybe glee, does that count as a pop band? chris brown comes to mind too, kanye west.

Elli 03-31-2011 01:14 PM

NickleBack
Akon (he just makes me mad for unknown reasons)
Abba (I've tried and tried, but can't like them)
Fleetwood Mac (a few songs I now can tolerate, but I don't LIKE any of them)

Although it isn't a band, but this "Adele" bitch is on almost every fucking 10mins. I think she has about 3 or 4 songs in the chart just now so the radio is playing them all to death. I think she's a fucking horrible horrible singer too... :2 cents:

She is getting massive over here. She just sold out the air canada centre. 18,000 seats

HomerSimpson 03-31-2011 01:24 PM

U2, Abba...

can't think of any other right now...
but I'd probably add more to the list...

As much as I hate to admit it - I like Glee.

Not so much for the music - though that can be fun if you let yourself just go with it - but for the risks they are taking with things such as gay teens (awesome kiss last week that will have changed the life of at least one kid out there) and even the BBW/FA relationship they are running at the moment.

Now, Kanye West, I can't even listen to a few 'notes' of one of this songs.

GrouchyAdmin 03-31-2011 03:46 PM

Rush, Coldplay, Pink Floyd (overdose), NickleBack

Elli 03-31-2011 04:08 PM

Oh Rush. Yes, totally add them to my list. I know I'm Canadian, but that does NOT mean I worship Rush.

lol ellie, i am disappointed but you're so damn sexy, that makes up for it. i don't like some of the periods rush went through but overall, they're pretty good but do get played the hell out of on canadian radio.

I fucking hate Rush... I call them the anti-Beatles because most (if not all) of their songs seem devoid of melody. And the lead singer's voice??? Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!

Sarah_Jayne 03-31-2011 04:19 PM

I was a late bloomer with Rush but now I really like them. However, I had to admit that it was okay for me to be more into the Tom Sawyer/New World Man side of them than the more complicated stuff from them first.

I am with you all on ABBA.

dyna mo 03-31-2011 04:37 PM

i got one!

i can't stand how the badass 80s songs are reproduced with an extra drum track or bass line or something just slightly different than the original, just to make it *modern* or something. they play those a lot on the 80s digital music channel.

i've noticed it a lot with the cure and simple minds songs.

Sarah_Jayne 03-31-2011 04:44 PM

How about the 92 different remixes of every good Mode song?

btw...I should talk to you about my recent experimentations with medically legal substances.

you know how much i like like them eh. have to say though, that some of those old 12" remixes were BAAADDASS.

but yeah, most are total trash. the 12" extended tracks were usually better. same with several other sweet bands.... remember heaven 17 let me go? awesome extended right?

so, go on with your latest research.........you're gonna be in paradise when you get situated in the bay area eh.

I used to dislike Pink Floyd because I couldn't find the melody in it. Now I've been introduced to it properly and I actually am beginning to like it. I'm not going to smoke up and turn off all the lights and turn on visualizations on Winamp and listen to the entire discography back to back, though.

tabasco 03-31-2011 08:18 PM

Can't understand the appeal of U2. Such bland music.

And Sarah try listening to the Blackeyed Peas with the volume cranked loud. I like listening their stuff in my car at volume.

96ukssob 03-31-2011 08:33 PM

nickleback, aerosmith, most new rappers

Supz 03-31-2011 08:38 PM

Infant Sorrow

When I dared to question the AWESOMENESS of Led Zeppelin in junior high I felt exactly like Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn in the 60s-70s.

There's a happy ending though. I "rediscovered" the sublime magic behind Zeppelin and became a fan forever--starting in college.

I came into this thread wondering how many replies would go by before Nickelback was named. I see it's 3.

Huh.

Would have thought they'd get at least a top 2 positioning. :D

v4 media 04-01-2011 01:01 AM

I have a bit of a problem with The Cure.. apart from the very end of the forest, when the bass line fades out I like that bit..

change your radio station, hehe.

What do you like? if you like dance try 1xtra or if you like a bit of everything but no poppy chart stuff try 6 music. both from the bbc and streamed online.

jerryb 04-01-2011 03:29 AM

Shep Fields
Phil Spitalny
Spike Jones

Sorry I lost you peeps ... I'm a 74 year old Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey fan. To me crashing drums with 5 guitars and someone SCREAMING into the mike is NOT a band.

5 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxaphones, guitar, piano, vibes, upright bass and drums to me IS a band. With a nice lady singer singing words you can understand.

:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

I'm not watching TV and not listening to the radio, so I don't really give a fuck :)

I'll probably regret saying this publicly but I went to see Nickelback in Charlotte, NC a couple of summers ago. My father in law was going with some of his friends and one guy backed out so he had a free ticket (I swear I didn't buy it).

Honestly I had a damned good time and Nickelback was pretty good live. Before I saw them live I hated them, their silly sculpted mullets and their cheesy music. Now I actually own some Nickelback tunes.

It is more about having to find the right balance. I am apparently very hard to reach with vapor (the method of preference in this house) and can share several bags and still not really feel much. However,if using caps ..green or yellow so far, it gets too intense and is more like being trapped in my head than anything good feeling. I need to figure out s middle ground.

I actually love big band music. My dad made sure we knew it all. What I am more concerned about is that you don't like Spike Jones? Crazy talk!
