Good News for GFY trolls...?

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- McDonald's said Monday that it is planning a one-day hiring spree of 50,000 new workers on April 19 for its U.S. restaurants.

McDonald's (MCD, Fortune 500) said that these new "Mcjobs" will include crew and management positions, part-time and full-time.

McDonald's, which has 14,000 restaurants in the United States, said the hires will occur nationwide.

"We're excited to offer 50,000 new jobs, all across America, all in one day," said Jan Fields, president of McDonald's U.S.A.

Fields, who started working at a McDonald's restaurant as a crew member behind the counter in 1978, said the 50,000 new hires will increase the U.S. workforce to 700,000 from its current level of 650,000.

She said the average pay for the jobs is $8.30 an hour. That's compared to the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, though in some states the minimum wage is higher. She said that restaurant managers can make $50,000 a year.

This announcement from McDonald's is just the latest sign of an improving job market. On Friday, the U.S. government announced a gain of 216,000 jobs in March, pushing the unemployment rate down to 8.8%, its lowest level in two years

Maybe now the Demon can find something to keep him busy instead of trolling. And the best part of his new job is that it's non-union.

What's wrong with working in McDonald's? It's honest labor.

I know someone with a phd in chemistry who put herself through school at McD's. After a few years in her "profession" she decided she didn't like sitting in a lab all day. Went back to work at McD's and is sitting on about .5 million in co stock and makes a nice living as an area manager.

I wonder how many full time jobs they'll phase out to add these 50,000 part timers..

Everyone is doing it...

Amen. Brother. Amen. I worked at Carl's Junior (Southern Cal burger chain) and it taught me the following

1) The value of showing up on time

2) Your attitude dictates how well you do in life

3) Doing a good job is its own reward

4) Character counts

Sure, mopping floors, waddling about on greasy floors, and growing a pimply face might seem unattractive and nasty but it was the sweat and toil and the DISCIPLINE it produced that continues to guide me to this day.

Don't knock hard honest labor because it is the foundation of character that benefits a person for a lifetime.

This may have been the most important lesson that I learned, and I'm glad I learned it so early on. I remember what seemed as though it was a famous quote from coworkers throughout my early jobs, "That's not apart of my job description." I was the opposite, I did any task assigned, smiled when it was assigned, did it better than anyone else, and took pride in doing it so well. Even though recognition wasn't my goal at the time, it was the result. That holds true to this day.

I goto McDonalds maybe once a year but I don't really remember waiting being a major problem, Walmart on the other hand could definitely use 100,000 more fucking cashiers!

Ron Bennett 04-04-2011 11:14 PM

PR gimmick for something McDonald's does all the time; they're always hiring ... I'd imagine, with the very high turn-over, collectively between the 14,000 U.S. stores, they hire around 50,000 every week anyways.

On a related topic, as others point out above, fast food / customer service jobs can be excellent, though often very demanding, first jobs for teenagers / early twenty-somethings ... but when much of the jobs today are only of that nature, that's a sad state of affairs for the U.S. ... for a teenager, earning $8.30 per hour is good, but for an adult with a family, that's a pittance.

Ron

I'm glad I stayed away from McDonald's today. I didn't need to get stabbed or shot while trying to get a milkshake.

lilith_pet 04-05-2011 12:16 AM

I used to be a waitress.. But anyway.. Though nothing's wrong about honest work I still tried to avoid McDonald's even at hardest times when I needed a job badly.. If I started working there I'd feel like a loser. I don't know why. But if there was no other option.. McDonald's is way better than robbing people or something :)

Would be funny running a place where you wouldn't even eat.

alias 04-05-2011 08:07 AM

Think of all the mc sluts, although you have to get them before the grease does.

Klen 04-05-2011 08:09 AM

In my country you cant get a job at McDonalds unless you are regular student (because you dont need to pay tax, retirement and social health for them)

Sly 04-05-2011 08:09 AM

That has to be one of the worst $50k jobs. I can't even imagine the stress, better come with full health care!

PR_Glen 04-05-2011 08:25 AM

i would have been better off working at mcdonalds instead of in factories when i was younger... less money for sure, but at least there are women there! :)

TripleXPrint 04-05-2011 08:54 AM

There aren't many opportunities where you can start off as a burger boy or fry guy making $8.30 an hour and work your way up to a multimillion dollar position with little or no education. I don't eat McDonalds but from what I understand, they treat their employees very well and in most cases, will even pay for their education.

Rochard 04-05-2011 08:57 AM

In the Philippines, you can't get a Mcdonald's job unless you're in college or have a degree. Maybe that changed recently but just goes to show you the dearth of jobs caused by the monopolization of the economy.

Yeah, great news

Better than them sucking on unemployment, which most will do because "they are too good" to work at McDonalds. :Oh crap

Alprazolam 04-19-2011 05:12 PM

that explains why the board is so slow today.

fatfoo 04-19-2011 07:06 PM

This McDonalds national hiring day sure provides a lot of jobs with 50,000 new workers. Congratulations, McDonalds, with providing more jobs to people. The company chose to increase human labour rather than machine labour such as vending machines or other food machinery. Congratulations with giving people more jobs.
