HELP - certain site doesn't load for me

OK, don't want to post a link here since it is a webmaster forum, but the site doesn't load for me for two days. Today, I managed to get to the index page (took about 15 minutes to load) twice...

The site is up - checked with "down for me or everyone else" website and also called my friend, who loads it in a matter of seconds.

I have two computers and two different Internet connections (ADSL and fiber).

So far I have tried:

using three different browsers - same story
clearing cookies, history, etc. with CCleaner and another program and from the browsers themselves - no go
using different DNS servers - tried three free ones - no go
using anonymous (paid) proxies - no go
virus, etc. - haven' run full scans, but both computers have AV programs running and I doubt that a virus would block one site only and nothing else

Seriously, WTF - my gut tells me that this should be a DNS issue, but I tried that too on both computers and it didn't work

Any ideas?

I know the website your talking about, something tells me its been hacked - shame cause you get good ideas from there.

Are you using a router? If so, reset the router.

shut down your pc and restart so it clears everything out.

Try via proxy, if can't help then restart modem, or try to visit with blocked js etc

does the site you're talking have "fire" in the domain name? the one I'm trying to get to works for my friend - I called him and he loaded it in a split second...

rebooted a few times too and tried loading the site on two computers

can you tracert the domain? if so, can you then reach it using the IP.

this is what I get when I ping the ip (replaced the real ip with **):

Pinging **.***.**.*** with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from **.***.**.***: bytes=32 time=239ms TTL=46
Reply from **.***.**.***: bytes=32 time=226ms TTL=46
Reply from **.***.**.***: bytes=32 time=264ms TTL=46
Reply from **.***.**.***: bytes=32 time=243ms TTL=46

Ping statistics for **.***.**.***:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 226ms, Maximum = 264ms, Average = 243ms

^^^ what does that say - it seems that I can get to the host, no? When I go to the ip (paste in my browser), it still doesn't load

Not loading here either dude, I haven't been over there for a while but I just checked. It loaded the favicon only.

sponsorpimp 04-05-2011 07:31 AM

It's not just you, it has been happening to me as well since Friday I believe. It's a shame as it is a good site. I guess it may have been hacked because multiple users have the same problem.

jimmycooper 04-05-2011 07:35 AM

I just tried and can't get on either.

Antonio 04-05-2011 07:38 AM

ok, this pretty much solves the mystery - my friend was probably loading the site from his cache

damn, I was going crazy

candyflip 04-05-2011 07:56 AM

WickedFire does not come up for me either.

maybe your ISP's DNS server is fucked or something...

try using OpenDNS.com

or

http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/
there's also google dns, ips are
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
