3 Bands that Represent New York the best:

1) Lou Reed

2) The Ramones

3) Beastie Boys

No link to the article, this is just my opinion. Who puts down NY swagger better than these three groups? Nobody. Rant over. Discuss.

BlackCrayon 04-07-2011 12:01 PM

its hard to disagree with that.

alexchechs 04-07-2011 12:09 PM

1. The Ramones
2. Wu-Tang Clan
3. Beastie Boys

pretty much spot on. I might add Talking Heads and Sonic Youth, but those 3 are pretty much spot on :thumbsup

escorpio 04-07-2011 06:00 PM

You pretty much nailed it. I'd put Patti Smith on the list.

Jim_Gunn 04-07-2011 08:24 PM

I would add Agnostic Front, Sick of It All & Anthrax to the list.

candyflip 04-07-2011 09:08 PM

Kiss
New York Dolls
Toilet Boys

In addition to the original 3.

Vjo 04-07-2011 09:14 PM

Simon and Garfunkel (perhaps as an outsider looking in)

off the top of my head

Madonna (her image and movies were all NYC)
BJ Thomas (just one song but a classic)

so easy on the head

80's in the apple (perhaps the greatest live performer ever)

best version

great song

my fav and this really seems like NYC to me

LAJ 04-08-2011 10:21 AM

Very very hard to nail down 3. The Ramones and the Beastie Boys are definitely #1 and #2 though. Simon & Garfunkel, Blondie and Sonic Youth would round out the top 5 for me.

Houdini 04-08-2011 10:26 AM

Add:
Duke Ellington
Miles Davis
Public Enemy

The Porn Nerd 04-08-2011 10:56 AM

Well, if we're talking BORN IN NYC then it's:

Lou Reed
Paul Simon
Joey Ramone

BUT.....

If we're talking who best represents that "New York City-vibe" and is closely associated with this city tho they are not from here (yes, I'm a New Yawker) then there are two and only two:

Bob Dylan
John Lennon
