anyone else think a lot of wp nightmares are coming soon?

next big release 3.2, the required php is minimum 5.2.

lots of hosts still use 4, and most people just click upgrade without thinking, I think its gonna be a major nightmare for a lot of site owners.

its only months away.

Yup my host hasn't upgraded php yet. Suddenly they are going to start getting a whole shitload of support requests.

I'm sure most hosts that are at the top of their game would make the necessary arrangements:2 cents:

It could be worse: http://www.ixdownload.com/news/wordp...protected.html

And I'm sure (hoping? assuming?) the Wordpress upgrade system checks requirements before installing an upgrade.

HomerSimpson 04-11-2011 06:41 PM

I will have no issues with php5.xx

Eldon Hoke 04-11-2011 06:44 PM

Can't wait for the new release.

Hope all the noobs who are still running on PHP4 crash and burn.

BSleazy 04-11-2011 06:54 PM

Ya I know of some hosts that don't want to upgrade php on shared servers because 5.x will screw up some customers sites.

BSleazy 04-11-2011 06:57 PM

On another note. I had my first blog ever hacked a couple weeks ago. I fixed another guys blog that was hacked recently too.

CYF 04-11-2011 06:57 PM

I have 5.3.5 on my server and it's been working great with no issues. It totally amazes me that people are still using php4.

I certainly hope. Though, I'm sure most of the WP friendly hosts will have their shit together by the time of the release.

Agree with that. The only problem is that the plugins the writer recommends to help you secure a WP blog haven't been updated for the latest version of WP.

i have to say... good, fuck em.

if you are to stupid not to read update requirements and not stay on top of your technology, you should stay off the internet :2 cents:

btw, I run both PHP4 and PHP5 on my server. Had a few custom made scripts done years ago that will not work with PHP5. by default, it always points to php5

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 04-11-2011 09:42 PM

This will force a lot of hosts to get with the times. Not being compatible with the latest WP releases with be a death sentence for many.

They could always run both versions, with php4 being set as default and php5 selectable with .htaccess - I've seen it many times and it seems pretty convenient.

v4 media 04-12-2011 02:36 AM

I've just moved all our blogs over to a php5 server. So should be o.k.

AdultKing 04-12-2011 04:20 AM

IMHO PHP 5.2 would have to be the standard these days, hosts not at PHP 5 due to legacy issues need to get their houses in order, there is no reason you can't run both.

Ginn 04-12-2011 05:41 AM

I have no issues with that, so i'll upgrade:)

Si 04-12-2011 06:26 AM

It was running 3.0.5.

Whoever it was didn't do any real damage but they used my admin login to make a post saying I was hacked and to contact them about the security issue. They also made 1000's of new users and posts that weren't published.

TeenCat 04-12-2011 05:54 PM

please do not scare the kids my friend ...

V_RocKs 04-12-2011 05:59 PM

There are lots of sites that didn't upgrade PHP4 because they are self managed and the owner has no idea how to do it. In those cases you will find a lot of people SOL!
