Yes, you are right! Truth is, I am not 100% sure yet what I will need. What I have for now Is that i will be running Dolphin "facebook-clone" or if I find some better FB-script, that. I believe that I will be able to get a membermass of 3-5000. If I do a good job, way more :)

I am also thinking about offering free blogs for the members.

I really don´t know what server I would need for such a project. It just have to be fast enough and secure.

I use Amerinoc now and I am very happy with them, so unless I find a much better deal I will stay there. That is why I posted this thread :)

hey check out hostable.com I signed up with them. It is free for the first 3 years apparantly. I have used them for around a months so far for a couple small projects and they seem legit. Havent been down once yet.
