Cheapest way to get netflix on the tv?

Can I buy an old tivo box and use it to subscribe to netflix?
They want netflix "on the tv" and I don't want to have to put a computer in there

Porko 04-21-2011 08:38 AM

www.roku.com or just buy a tv that gives you access to Netflix as part of the tv.

If you have an xbox360, wii, or ps3 you can use them to get netflix

MrMaxwell 04-21-2011 08:49 AM

Never mind I'll just make them buy a roku box thing

I hadn't reloaded the page when I posted just now

You can buy internet/Google TV's that have it on there.

I have a Sony Internet TV. It comes with a keypad remote. Kind of tricky. But you can pick NetFlix from the menu and stream videos among many other things.

My tv came with netflix app. Its awesome.

CYF 04-21-2011 10:13 AM

Either use the free Wii/PS3/Xbox app, or the Roku is $59.

I'm using my Wii for streaming and it works great, but going to add a Roku here soon for a second tv.

on the xbox 360 you must have Xbox Live Gold in order to use Netflix so it's not free.

Wow, that sucks. I assumed it'd be free.

The Roku works well for parents, and elderly - however, the new 'all shows by show name' modification they've made means that trying to watch 'Cheers' means a 6 minute 'wait while we see what episode info we have'.

Roku is 'Six' in Japanese. Now I know why.

In a way it is, but you need xbox live gold in order to access is which that will cost you $60/year or so. Of course, that gives you access to everything else so it's not a netflix thing. Would be nice if they (microsoft) made so even xbox live silver accounts could download the netflix app and actually use it. Not sure why they didn't.

Babaganoosh 04-21-2011 10:29 AM

I love the roku. That thing gets more use than the xbox and cable box combined.

The app is awesome....Netflix instant is not.

I wish I could find one fucking thing on Netflix instant to watch. It's all crap.

Jakez 04-21-2011 10:50 AM

I use my Xbox but sometimes I also just hook my laptop up to my TV with a video cable lol. Only problem is the sound comes out of the laptop.

fuzebox 04-21-2011 11:11 AM

I've been using it daily on my PS3 for months... I even cancelled cable.

icymelon 04-21-2011 11:45 AM
