[IDEA] DDoS to prevent content theft?
So I know it's not legal, but if they're stealing content I'm pretty sure they're not going to be doing shit about it. I have a friend with a huge botnet and was thinking about starting a service to just take down any websites that won't answer DMCA letters.
Good idea? Bad idea? |
Might sound good in theory, but in reality it will not stop them. Actually, it won't do a whole lot.

Two wrongs make a right.

but honestly, to do any real damage, it would have to be permanant, so you have to find someone willingly to do it everyday for weeks/months even year. plus the legal aspect, content theft will always exist, and the law is on the infringing peoples side, because of "fair use" which in fact, is not fair to the owners at all. |

You know these types of botnets have existed for quite some time now and are much larger than 30k?

Many of the tubes host with a couple very major hosts that have already gone through more ddos attacks than you can shake a stick at... you would get bored waiting for them to go down.
|
Go for it.
I'm for anything that would cause them an inconvenience of any kind. Hit the small sites and clobber them. They will probably be the weakest and maybe on a shitty server. Sweep the leg. Fuck 'em and feed 'em fish heads. |
Google slowloris. It can drop several different webservers including apache. A big tube site will probably be able to handle the extra load but the little ones might not.

chinese are apparently capable of doing ddos for days and months on end and theres a ton of chinese doing ddos for pay.
they apparently have endless bots as everyone in china runs illegal windows copies and is infected. if someone actually set their mind to it, i guarantee they could take down a shit ton of sites one at a time for several days at a time. it will definitely put a hurt in them big time. attack nameservers, individual machines, individual uplink routers themselves, etc. you will end up hurting more then your intended target though (other users on that host will also be affected) |
I think you'd find the repercussions of being caught with your pants down orchestrating a DDoS attack would far outweigh the mostly civil penalties of copying content. :2 cents:

But you have to pay for this and it's only temporary... not that good solution, but in more important and urgent situations well, it's better than doing nothing.

We need a adult webmaster secret society to take care of this for us.:winkwink:
