Crazy Facebook Drama (cops, judges, court dates, status updates)
So my cousin got a speeding ticket not too long ago... the day it happened he posted about it on facebook and I think referred to the cop as a fat pig or something like that.
This week he went to court for it, and they had a print out of his comment. The comment wasn't incriminating to the case, but the cop and judge reprimanded him and were mad. Just typical southern law enforcement intimidation... I know it's his pic, and name, but how can they prove it is him and do that? They didn't do anything legal to him over it, just wanted to scare him. He is pretty freaked out too. lol He has like 800+ friends so I think there's a cop on his list too, or someone that pointed his comment out to one. Has anyone experienced or heard about anything like this??? |
And I thought we had freedom of expression. lol
Cop and judge were sure fat pigs. |
Some law enforcement departments use Facebook specifically to track down the location and to obtain information of wanted criminals.

writing stuff on Facebook is like writing it on a billboard by the highway.... If you don't want people to see it, don't post it.
. |
Yeah well this is the deep south... I hit him with the link to the local watchdog group, he probably won't do anything. It's crazy the way the cops and judges down here do whatever they want. People either don't care and say people get what they deserve or they are too ignorant to stand up and do anything about it.

But a 22 year old mouthing off about a cop... they actually print this out and put it in his face with no real legal reason to do so? I wouldn't let it slide... |

mistake #1
using facebook |
He should have said in open court after making sure he was on the record that the cop was a fat pig...it's not like he can get in trouble for it and he should have reprimanded the judge right back. Not sure why people treat the cops and judges as cops, if ever the only time you have to be outspoken without fearing people sneakily screwing you over is in court.

Not sure where you're from but where I live there's this thing called Contempt of Court. The judge can have you locked up for wearing a t-shirt he/she doesn't like. Calling a police officer a fat pig and then reprimanding the judge would have only gotten him about 30 days in jail with no bond. And when he got out...yep, he would have to go back in front of the same judge. The reason why people treat judges with respect is because they're the only people that wield the power to throw your ass in jail for as long as they want just because they want to. It's never a good idea to piss off a judge, unless it's Judge Judy. :1orglaugh |
yeah the cops (and judges) are out of control down here... I have stories I won't even post because some will not believe me... lol

It;s funny with you liberal nut jobs, it's ok for you to run your mouth about everyone else, but if one person says anything back to you then you get all up in arms about "personal liberties" and rights. Who the fuck are you to tell a cop or judge what they can and can't say to people, to express their own opinion. How ironic you bitching, thinking that someone is trying to suppress someone else's right to free speach by trying to say what other people can and can't say LMAO. |
Fuck the police.
|
Maybe its time to clean out his 800 friends down to the 4 who actually are his friend.
|
unbelievable! jack a*s cops think they own the world.

it's not like anything actually happened, I would just drop it... if you start stirring shit up, it will probably backfire in some way...

The cop/judge has a right to call someone an idiot just as much as the idiot had a right to call someone a fat pig. Freedom of speech goes both ways. If you want to start fucking with the police then you going to get the attention of the bad ones and you going to be sorry. |

Who the hell has an open FB account these days? That's just plain dumb.

I totally agree with this point of view, BTW. I would just want to have fun with the judge and move the game to a bigger arena, by taking the court recordings public. I tend to be self-destructive that way in the interest of gamesmanship. . |
One of the things I hate most about this industry.... full of liberal nut jobs.

More hypocrites than liberals, that's for sure. Best thing about Louisiana, most people from here stay here and are afraid of the dragons in the West! :1orglaugh |

Thanks ladies, yeah all is good. My worst problem is missing my home in Cali, but that's about it. :)

i know myspace and facebook were once giving out "law enforecement" accounts that allowed them to look at any "private" profiles and photos on the site.
kind of fucked up, but once you put it on the internet is becomes public information, nothing is secure on these wires. |

Guess what they also do? They create profiles with hot chicks so you'll add them, and give them access to your Facebook wall, etc. Debt collection companies use similar tactics as well. Pretty hilarious, isn't it? Just make sure you NEVER add anyone you don't know on Facebook. |

Characterization of a person is a sustainable objection in the court rules in most places ...
Maybe it isn't in HeeHaw Court ... |

i'm not sure if freedom of expression covers defaming people on a personal level. over here at least it doesn't.
|

This is why I no longer go south of Nebraska. Nothing but shitbillies down there.
|
Maybe Fletch should go back to school and become a lawyer now. You know... fight the good fight.
