The kinks are awesome, a nice hidden gem i have discovered in the last few years...

I saw the movie Pirate Radio (good one by the way) recently and they have a couple of good Kinks songs on there that got me back interested recently.. The Turtles as well.

Ray Davis was one of the greats when it came to writing lyrics that reflected society.

Wow. Never thought I'd see a Kinks thread on GFY.

My favourite band of all time. Often ahead of their time, doing their own thing and always in the shadow of the better known groups. But their influence on music over the past 40 years is huge. Their best output from 1966-1971 is right up there with the rest of the best music of all time.











There are so many good ones to post.

The Kinks were great.
When Ray Davies did the song/video "Come Dancing" I again thought what a great band.

Although Ray Davies gets much of the songwriting credit, Dave Davies is a good composer in his own right. I really liked his solo album "Glamour":



The Kinks were always an entertaining live act too... :thumbsup
