Wordpress paysites

I haven't seen many paysites around based on wordpress. I am thinking of starting one, is there any obvious flaw to doing that?

Let's say I have a domain and the content. Can wordpress be used as both the tour and the members area on 1 install? I would like the surfers to see the content that is added daily but only the thumbnails and video screen-shots.

So the outside page works just like a blog but It blacks people from viewing the full pics and the vids unless they sign up.

Also, does ccbill charge the annual visa fee per site you have or per account?

I'm mucho interested in this one as well...

VladS 05-03-2011 10:53 AM

There are lot of plugins out there, both free and paid. It can also be done custom. I'd use a fully custom solution or one existing paysite CMS, but WordPress can work as well, depends on amount of traffic also.

beks001 05-03-2011 10:54 AM

interesting thread....i'd like to know more as well.

Any idea how much a custom solution would cost? I'm trying to keep It relatively simple. Sure maybe some affiliates can send traffic to It but only after I have tweaked the conversion and there is enough content etc. How much traffic is wordpress good for?

JD 05-03-2011 10:57 AM

I can create them :) Price ranges from 500 to 1200 depending on number of unique page styles, required functionality, etc. Those prices include all paid plugins if required.

To answer your questions directly:
1. No obvious flaws to using WP
2. Easily doable
3. Not a problem
4. No idea :(

Brujah 05-03-2011 11:00 AM

It should make a fantastic tour but probably a little lacking in the members area without heavy customization

Do you have any portfolio on sites like this. Have you done any I can see maybe?

miss_bellabellini 05-03-2011 11:39 AM

Yes, it is definitely possible and wordpress has been my favourite CMS by far. And I've been through a few.

My tour and members area are separate. But that's because I was using a different CMS for my members area even when I was using Wordpress for my tour. But it wouldn't be a problem to integrate them. I will probably integrate at some point when I have time.

I didn't like any of the standard available options for photo and video galleries. So I worked with Adam from Thesis Ready to modify my members area. He did a fantastic job and it only took a few hours.

thesisready 05-03-2011 11:48 AM

Hi Nicky,

As Bella mentioned, I created her member's area with WordPress and Thesis. Send me an email at [email protected] and we can discuss some details, and I'll send you a link to my portfolio as well.

Thanks!
-Adam

NO, YES, YES, PER ACCOUNT

Now, we have made sites as you want (1 single install) but to be honest, the 2 installs option is way better and more secure since you add an additional layer of security. This being said, it can be done either way.

Anyway, the clock is ticking for something REVOLUTIONARY in terms of CMS, not only WP CMS, but any kind of adult and/or mainstream CMS, so maybe you should wait a couple weeks or so, just as long as the damn designer finds time to build some themes for public :winkwink:

Shoot me an email and I'll reply with a couple examples [email protected]

Btw, I agree with Harvey, 2 installs is much more secure :thumbsup

You can put some thumbs in to post and restrict everything after yourdomain.com/ with members area so people must buy membership when they click on "continue reading" or "more" link

Thanks for the replies people. I will email some of you. I also came across AdultSiteCMS.com It's based on wordpress and looks pretty decent. Any one have experience with It?

Didn't use it but judging from a quick look it seems decent enough.

Just make sure their templates are easy to work with/customize. If they are confident enough about their product, ask them for template files to check it out and wp-admin access of the demo site.

I'd have to see the exact features. Re traffic, it really depends on the overall WordPress setup: how many plugins, how well written the plugins are, if you use caching, how you stream videos, etc...

You can drop me an email to further discuss, no matter if you just need an advice, an opinion or have a clear project.

I'd be careful with that. When I used it I found much of it was hardcoded and overwrote core WordPress features. Things like drag-and-drop widgets were replaced with a static sidebar, for no real reason. On top of that, the version I used wasn't well commented, so changes to core files were tedious.

Ok, thanks for the heads-up. Maybe some of these things are changed in the version 3.1 ?

fitzmulti 05-03-2011 03:23 PM

I have a site under development, using WordPress for the tour...the members area will still be run by my standard CMS that I use for all my sites.

Nicky 05-03-2011 03:29 PM

Thanks for the advice, keep It coming.

Nicky 05-03-2011 03:33 PM

2 advantages with this is that the tour will be very fresh and the SEO benefits are very good.

DWB 05-03-2011 03:39 PM

JD is making one for me now. Should be done in a few days, will let you know how it turns out.

I already have a nice CMS, but this new project needed something else and what I had is overkill, so we're making this one on WP. I'm just going to run the members side, not the tour.

Ok, would be nice to see It when finished. Do you feel WP is too code/php heavy to be handling the tour?

SmutHammer 05-03-2011 04:26 PM

No Matter how good a cms is, be carefull, you'll be paying a monthly fee, and if customer service is bad it's worthless and you just end up stuck... I'm looking into adultsitecms for some of my smaller sites, hopefully this will work out good....

dgraves 05-03-2011 04:31 PM

i've been using WP for our paysite for several years now with no issue. i'm using a standard theme right now called inove for Chica's Place but i'm getting JD to make me a custom theme for my new paysite.

pamon 05-03-2011 06:59 PM

there was a good thread earlier on this featuring a long conversation around WP and using it for a members type site.

Bump for thoughts and info :thumbsup

We have a network of sites that we set up like that and the software is available. All new updates
and everything show on on the tour area, which provides Google with a lot of pages to
spider. You can see the thumbs pages, but when you click to see the full video or full
sized image you have to be logged in.

Contact [email protected] or call 979-530-1300.

Be careful if you do this with a home grown system, or using any system designed by someone
not certified in security. It's tricky to design correctly where it runs both the public area and the
protected area from one system like that, where the tour displays all of the latest updates and
everything from within the members' area. Most of the time when people do that it's actually very
easy for the bad guys to grab all of your content without logging in. The most common "solution"
to that problem, running all of the pics and videos through a PHP script, actually creates a huge
new problem - the bad guys can use the video download script to instead download your password
file and other sensitive files.

The basic approach we used is that just as site.com and www.site.com and two names
for the same site, members.site.com is also another alias for the same site. If you use the
name members.site.com, you have to log in, and you have access to everything. If you are
on www.site.com, you have no access to full sized images or videos. Using the two names
provides the clean separation required for appropriate security.
