The Return of the GFY Contests and Prizes???
 

So we are having a debate between myself, Panos, and Theo about the old GFY contest threads. We are debating bringing them back but with some twists. I am going to throw a few things out there for you guys and would love to hear additional ideas and see what you guys would like to see from the contests if we decide to bring them back.

Contest 1 - Longest Threads

There will be several parts to this contest, so let me break them down.

Part 1 - Longest Threads of the Week
Longest Business/Educational Thread
Longest Fucking Around Thread

We are having some debate here because if someone posts a would you hit it thread, but it is for content they have shot they could technically say that that was a business thread. One idea is to have the business thread be of an Educational Nature. Thoughts?

Part 2 - 4 Longest Threads of the Month - Grand Prize

Each week we would have a winner of the longest thread of the week and then at the end of the month we would have voting opened for those four threads and the winner by community vote would earn a prize. What are some prizes $500-$1000 range that you guys would like to see for this contest? Ipads, Laptops, etc?

Contest 2 - GFY Gear Design Contest

This one would be for the designers on GFY, here is your chance to be immortalized on GFY and also show off your skills. Designing things like T-Shirts, Hoodies, Hats, etc.

What type of prizes would entice you guys to participate in this contest. We have some ideas but would love to hear yours.

Here is your chance to recommend some other contest ideas too. So let's here em.

Always loved the GFY swag, great idea bringing the stuff back. The defferent posting plateous, the 1st 100, then the 1k always stood out in my mind and have the shirts to prove it. Going with Ipads and Iphones et is a good ide as people love to use them. Perhaps, give recognititon to old time posters , who have been here 10 yrs or longer, (well ok 9 yrs:winkwink: irregardless of their post count:thumbsup

All good ideas Eric. Bring back the contests so some of the newer people have a chance to win some board shwag.

Although I can't promise I won't try to add to my already huge pile of stuff -- adult.com jacket, mp3 player, dvd burner, couple of shirts, I think a hoodie.

While in theory it sounds like fun, but in reality, if there is anything to be given away, even if it's $5, the contest whores will creep out of the shadows of every impoverished nation in the world and dominate those "longest threads" if there is any chance they could win so much as a smoke.

In order to have some real fun, you need to out think those types.

I know you guys are worried about post whores, but let me clear up a few things.

The main contests we are talking about here are for the Longest Threads in a Business/Education Category and a Fucking Around Category. The only prizes for those threads would go to the thread starters, not someone posting 200 times or being the 1500th posters. No single post would be designated that it is going to be the post of the week, it will all just come down to which one ends up being the longest. So for the post whores it would all be a guessing game.
