Do any of you go to your high school reunions?

I know many on this board are still in high school or dropped out, but for those of you who stuck it through and graduated, do you go to your reunions?

Haven't been to one yet, but a few old friends said it was a good time.

CaptainHowdy 05-07-2011 08:20 AM

Lame Facebook nostalgia. Fortunately I never felt slightly compelled to do such a thing ...

L-Pink 05-07-2011 08:24 AM

Keeping in high school character I cut the reunions too.

TurboAngel 05-07-2011 08:43 AM

I haven't been to one shit I hate to admit I'm old enough to have gone to one. LMAO

munki 05-07-2011 08:52 AM

My 10 year reunion was cancelled. Wouldn't have mattered though, anyone I wanted to stay in touch with, I have.

Barefootsies 05-07-2011 08:56 AM

Nope. I do not go. We just had one last year.

My opinion appears to be shared by most of our class, as few ever show up to them. I think we had a graduating class of just under 400, and maybe 50 show up to the reunions. We've only had 2 since graduation, and that is something like 20 years now.

Horny Dude 05-07-2011 08:58 AM

Guess I'm the only one so far that has gone to his 10 year HS reunion. It's cool to see old friends and first loves. I'm not going to date myself and tell you how far till my 20th HS reunion is...YIKES!

Rochard 05-07-2011 09:02 AM

I do not. I speak to a handful of peeps via Facebook, and all of them are fucking miserable with their crappy jobs and being divorced. I get enough of them via Facebook; I'm not about to travel across the country to a fucking Holiday Inn so we can hang out in a banquet and relive past memories that no one wants to share.

davecummings 05-07-2011 09:02 AM

I'm 71, so there have been many Saratoga Springs (NY) HS reunions for me--we're done them every five years. Every one was a LOT of fun. Besides all the cocktail parties, dances/skits/brunches/BBQs/etc, our 50th included a romp back at our actual high school which had recently been renovated back to the late 50s decor and look that we all remembered and grew up in.

I'm looking forward to my 55th reunion in 2013!

amateurbfs 05-07-2011 09:05 AM

I get enough of that when I visit the bars when I return to my hometown, no thanks.

fuzebox 05-07-2011 09:25 AM

I think Facebook killed the high school reunion... Mine was supposed to be last summer, was rescheduled twice, and when it finally happened I think 20 people (class of 300) went.

Nowadays, 10 years later, everyone knows where everyone else is... You see their daily updates on Facebook, or you all still live in the town you grew up in together. For the guys like me that just want the reunion to show off how much better we turned out, they don't care, lol.

ran into a few guy from HS on face book.... the relationships just sorta petered out... we have nothing in common at all anymore..

beerptrol 05-07-2011 10:30 AM

I go just for shits and giggles, most of the popular kids are now fat, bald, and miserable. I love how they relive the glory days of high school

Deej 05-07-2011 10:35 AM

I went to mine this last year. 10 year. Im not a fan of most of the people that came but the hand full that I did enjoy hanging with was well worth it. Also I got to see my favorite teacher. He popped into the after party at the bar and found me in the corner swilling beers. It was different seeing him with beer in hand abut it was still the same. We had a nice talk about how weve both been and my career choices. He wasnt shocked at all ;)

Spent the weekend hanging out with the select few I remember and still have great admiration for. Told the rest to fuck off and ditched their parties :pimp

If you want to see the hand full of people you actually liked... its well worth it. If you dont have anyone you want to see... chances are its mutual.

MediaGuy 05-07-2011 10:44 AM

I don't think I would. I think it would be saddening.

I imagine all these "successful" people would be there looking twice our age... I remember Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir reported on one reunion he attended and said "There was a lot of soul death there that day."

Count me out...

:D

The Heron 05-07-2011 10:50 AM

My 10 year is this summer, I'm surprised by how many of my friends fear going because 'its just everyone showing off how better they are' of course I was friendly with most everyone in my class so I want to go and I'm arrogant enough to not care if everyone shows up in private helicopters, won't affect how awesome I am! I think life is more fun with connections and friends, why limit yourself? Anyhow you never know who'll be your next biz contact or best friend...

Your positive attitude and outlook on life will create much resentment and unconscious jealousy... good luck!

:D

BlackCrayon 05-07-2011 10:54 AM

i'm not sure how they would even contact me to let me know its happening, regardless i wouldn't go.

Spunky 05-07-2011 11:09 AM

Yes I went to the 20 and 30 year reunions

black1000 05-07-2011 11:19 AM

Yes last time I went to reunion 3 years ago and that was after 15 years from graduation and another meeting is next Saturday. I can't wait to see my old buddies

Ayla_SquareTurtle 05-07-2011 12:40 PM

Nooooo. No no no. I had enough of those redneck bastards when I was in school with them.

CarlosTheGaucho 05-07-2011 01:36 PM

One coming up in two weeks, not sure if I'll go, although I would love to see some people (and women) I really do have mixed feelings - different worlds and different lives we lived. Even if that would turn out all right then I'll hardly be able to keep in touch with those people.

cooldude7 05-07-2011 01:43 PM

my schoolmates are arranging reunion on coming 17th.......i m not planning to go.....there.

onwebcam 05-07-2011 01:46 PM

I think the class president was in rehab on the 10 year and no one else picked up the ball so there was no 10 year. 20 year is next year and from what I hear he's in some extended 1 year rehab program.. So probably no 20 year. lmao

RadicalSights 05-07-2011 01:56 PM

HS reunion? :1orglaugh No one even went to senior prom... It was in the fucking HS Cafeteria I think because they couldnt get enough $ together or something for a good place. :1orglaugh A few of us just went out to a party instead... My HS was kind of lame.
Although my senior year of HS was one of the most fun years of my life I'd say...

that might be the only reason to go.. to tap some tail that you never got to/ turned you down in highschool.

fatfoo 05-07-2011 03:39 PM

I don't go to high school reunions, although I still meet with friends that I knew from high school.

theking 05-07-2011 03:57 PM

I attended one reunion and that was a few years ago. It was a pretty good turnout...but I wish I had not attended after seeing how some of my old girl friends looked. I would have preferred to keep them as they were in my memories...this even applies to some of the guys.

CC 05-07-2011 04:06 PM

I went to my 5 and 10 year reunions and plan on going to the 15 year. I just enjoy catching up with old friends in person. Facebook is fun and all but nothing beats talking to people in real life.

I skipped both my 5 year and my 10 year reunions. Wasn't really interested in going, all the people I'd want to catch up with I talk to on facebook.

VicD 05-07-2011 04:47 PM

i did once, not a very good idea

u-Bob 05-07-2011 04:54 PM

I missed my 10 year reunion... got to admit that I'm kinda curious about how things went :)

blackmonsters 05-07-2011 05:01 PM

I have a high school reunion every time I go to the convenience store.
All my old friends all say the same thing every time........"Got some spare change?".

...

Kiopa_Matt 05-07-2011 05:02 PM

Wanted to goto my 10 year reunion, but nobody could get organized enough to put it together. Ended up being 5 people who went camping together, so I wasn't about to fly about to Canada for that.

I skipped mine but thanks to the internet got to see everything I missed out on, which turned out not to really be much of anything.

25, maybe 30 year renunions might be worth it, but 10 not so much. No one interesting attended and those that did didn't appear to have changed that much.

plsureking 05-07-2011 09:03 PM

i got my 20th in July but im not going to fly halfway around the world to see a bunch of old bald guys and fat milfs. i see them all on fb anyway lol

.

GARY LEE 05-07-2011 10:15 PM

I have one coming up in October. I've had too many although not as many as Dave Cummings, LOL. I did have a great time at each of them though and it's great to see all my old buddies.
The really fun one I still go to is my military reunion. We all meet at Hotel del Coronado every August. Its 3 days of drinking on the beach we used to work at called gator beach. 3 days of emptying multiple budweiser beer keg trucks. I'm not a big drinker but I always manage to stay drunk for the entire 3 days. Afterwards my old fire team usually heads down to Ensenada for another day or two. I have a good time but at the conclusion I will have to admit I'm glad we only do it once a year.

Captain Kawaii 05-07-2011 10:26 PM

High school friends are like turnips. Better left where they are. Back in high school.

Whats High School?

kane 05-08-2011 02:07 AM

I haven't gone to any of mine. The people I really care about I still stay in touch with.

One funny, but sad, thing was for our 10 year reunion they sent everyone out a questionnaire and wanted you to fill it out and send it back even if you weren't going. They used that info to put a book together for everyone that attended that told about everyone's lives. If you were married, had kids, what you did for work, where you lived and what you biggest memories from high school were etc. One of the questions was your biggest moment since high school. Some of the answers were depressing and sad. One guy's best moment was shooting a deer on the opening day of deer season. Another was a guy just wishing things were like they were in high school. There were a bunch where people were divorced, had kids and sounded like they hated their lives.

A friend of mine went and said the whole thing was kind of depressing so I was glad I didn't go.

Haven't been to one but have no particular aversion to them. If the timings right I'd make it to the next one.

If you "liked them", or they "liked you" so well, it would not take 10 or 20 years, and some class reunion in the day of social networks, to talk to them.

True dat.

I've been to a few homecoming games with friends over the years and you've summed it up perfectly. Anywhere between 5-20 year mark it's the same old stories. Married, divorced, kids they never see, factory workers, whatever.

Those who I liked back in H.S., in college, or other acquaintances, I still talk to and never lost touch with. Whether via the old phone number system before, or social networks now. We still get together a few times a year for dinner, golf outings, jet-skiing, a night out, or whatever.

ottopottomouse 05-08-2011 01:18 PM

No interest in a large reunion. It's hard enough when you meet someone from years ago and after about 30 seconds find you have nothing in common and are bored of them.
