Your argument would be stronger if there hadn't been a plethora of really famous and somewhat famous celebrities releasing sex tapes shot on their own or at the behest of companies like Vivid. Of course, Pippa Middleton and certain others would never really consider it seriously and this offer is clearly all about nonsense publicity. But he can't help but be encouraged to try when you consider Pamela Anderson- at one time one of the most famous women in the world- made a huge selling sex video. And I wouldn't be surprised if we see another at least B-level celeb doing one in the near to medium term future.

Come on, Mutt, that's an awfully broad generalization almost devoid of information. I have no connection to Vivid and have no reason to say anything positive about them, other than in the sake of fairness. Vivid has had a very successful business for many, many years and serves a market for those couples friendly softcore and hardcore feature movies that are broadcast on tv all over the world, and released on DVD and sold in other markets. I have no idea how well or poorly they are faring online, but not eveything in the adult business revolves around the paysite model.

i'm talking as a consumer, i don't care about their financial success - my ISP/Cable company makes billions and they are the worst company on the planet with the shittiest products and services.

in the late 80's when I was in my 20's and in my rent VHS porn days I'd go to the adult video store or 'the room' at the back of the regular video store and look at the thousands of boxes, I'd see these amazing looking box covers with gorgeous girls, they were VIVID videos, and I'd rent them. I even remember the VIVID title sequence, it was like two alien forms, i guess one male and one female coming together. And from a monkey spanking point of view they were horrible videos. I don't know how long I got suckered into renting them, they always seemed to have the new faces so I kept renting. THEN one day I saw a different kind of box cover art, tons of little inset pics on the cover, not glamorous - it was Stagliano/Buttman, rented one, and it was awesome. I had discovered gonzo porn. I can't say I never rented another VIVID video because as time went on I began to understand how the biz worked, that VIVID had contract girls so if I saw a girl like Taylor Hayes I liked I had no choice but to rent her in a VIVID video if I wanted to check her out.

Guys who really like porn, porn connoisseurs, HATE Vivid, always have. The casual porn watcher who might rent vids to watch with his gf/wife or rent a porn video for himself once in a blue moon, they don't care, if it's got hot girls and they're getting fucked that's all they need, they aren't stressing out thinking there's gotta be something better.
