A guy from down the street knocks on my door waving a gun around
 

So yesterday I get a knock on the door and some drunk dude from down the street that I had never met before starts raving on with a gun in his hand about how he's going to kill my cat. He claimed that my cat opened his sliding screen door, came into his house and attacked his cat and now his cat is badly hurt and won't come out from under his bed. I told him to take his cat to the vet and I will pay for it, then he starts going on about my cat being over there every day blah blah. I know this is a lie, my cat had ran out the door a few hour earlier while carrying groceries in, and he has gotten out a few times before but certainly not on a daily basis.

He tells me he will send me the bill and I said no problem and he leaves. I kinda felt bad for the guy, I would be pissed to if someone elses cat did that so I decided to go over to his house to check it out and apologize. When I get there his cat was standing next to the door rubbing up against it purring, not a hair on the cat was out of place and it certainly didnt look or act like it had just been in a fight. I asked him if he was going to take the cat to the vet and he said he was going to wait a day to see how it acts. He then shows me the screen door and there were a few cat claws in it, he his cat couldnt of done it because its declawed and that he never lets it outside, yet on his patio was yellow cat hair. Then he starts pointing to at least half a dozen different neighbors saying they all want to kill my cat.

He then tells me he wants me to pay for his screen door and I told him I would look into how much screen doors are and get back to him. Afterwords I started thinking about it and nothing about this adds up, his cat didnt show any signs of physical or emotional trauma, and who the fuck would leave their hurt animal, grab a gun and go chase another cat half a block and knock on someones door acting like a fucking lunatic? Its possible my cat did claw his door but I don't know what to think at this point. Part of me thinks I should just pay for the door and be done with it, but another part of me wonders if this guy is making up some of this story and the fact that he was waving a gun at my front door is fucking bullshit.

Just kill your cat and throw it on his front porch and he can keep it so he doesn't have to render payment. That is what I would do.

if he came to your house waving a gun around...you should inform the police..he is probably only one more bad event away from killing someone

I would call the cops, I'm for gun owndership, but responsible gun ownership. Chances are this isn't the first time he's done something like this and can't legally own a gun

tough call. maybe call the non-emergency number for the police department and ask them. That is what it's for... and reporting abandoned cars.

I have definitely thought about it, but do I really want to escalate things further with a crackpot living a few houses away?

Sounds like he's mentally ill. A mentally ill man, with a weapon is obviously dangerous. A mentally ill man with a weapon, and the behavior already demonstrated in taking the weapon out, and coming to your door with accusations of this nature is highly dangerous and a possible warning sign of worse to come.

I would not waste one more second and call the police. Let's be honest, your life may be in danger at this very moment. I don't believe that's at all an exaggeration.

Donno about there but here a cat is legally a wild animal when it comes down to anything it has done or anything that has happened to it.

A guy comes to my front door waving a gun around the best he can hope for is I call the cops.

I would be on the 6 o clock news If that shit happened.

Guy is a fucking nut case, call the cops and get yourself a gun if you don't have one.

Call the police about the gun and file a report.

If he comes again with gun waving around shoot him in between the eyes.

He just needs another reason to kill you or people in your household.

He's probably one more strike away from getting evicted or locked up.

I would have in invited him inside my house and then shot him then tell the police he threatened to kill me and forced his way into my house and that I was in fear for my life.. No jury would convict me... Remember, a dead man tells no story.. just sayn

You can't have some crazy drunk pounding on your door, fuck, you need to call the cops. The next time he might be a little crazier or a little more drunk and what happens then?

You need to brush up on your gun laws, dude. You have the right to own and carry firearms. You don't have the right to pull them on people because you're upset your cat got into a fight or wave them around. I hope that was a joke.

On a serious note, why don't you just do what any logical and reasonable person would do...

Sit both of the cats down and get each side of the story.

If he thinks he can take advantage of you it might escalate, tell him you will give the VET your CC number, game over! Don't visit him again.

See if you can catch him sober and squash it, move on. You do not want some delusional guy after you or your family if you live with them.

If you call the cops he might be a real problem when he gets out [if they even detain him].

My neighbors cat jumps on my car and scratches the hell out of it. Ive thought about shooting it a few times.

Some dude got shot cause he was loud, drunk, Asian and at the wrong house.

But yeah...if a guy waved a gun at someone and a fight happened and then the cops showed up, that would still make the news here in Vegas.

Just to be clear he did not point the gun at me, he had it in his hand and I didnt notice it for a few minutes because of the size, looked like a .25 to me. But when I saw it I said what, did you come over here to shoot me? He said no, I was going to shoot your cat. The thought to call the cops didnt even enter my mind at the time, I figured if he started raising it he'd be on the ground first so it wasnt a scary situation.



This was in Colorado and we do have a Make My Day law and yea, probably could have gotten away with killing him, wouldnt be worth it.
