How much time a month do you spend on bills?

I have almost everything automated except 2 payments that cannot be automated, they take me about five minutes with a couple button clicks. Then I spend about 15 minutes a month reviewing my finances to make sure everything is in line with where it's supposed to be.

Spreadsheets and online banking rule!

L-Pink 05-10-2011 05:38 AM

I have one checking account that income comes into. This account is not online, it doesn't have any debit or automatic payments associated with it. I write a few checks a month from it to another checking account that is online which I pay my bills and get cash from.

Probably 20 minutes a month paying the few bills I do have.

.

slapass 05-10-2011 05:40 AM

I do the same. Even in Brazil I have everything automated. I was doing the accounting on my B&B last night and my partner hasn't written 20 checks this year on the thing. Life is good.

CurrentlySober 05-10-2011 05:40 AM

I cant afford to pay any bills... So I dont.

czarina 05-10-2011 05:41 AM

about $2500 a month in expenses, almost everything I own is paid for, except my son's private school, gas, internet, etc.

Nicky 05-10-2011 05:42 AM

5-10 min per month I'd say.

That wasn't the question :)

Hardly any, everything is automated.

I requested to file taxes once a year instead of every quarter (company taxes over here in Holland)

10 mins a month, tops.

MaDalton 05-10-2011 06:07 AM

almost nothing, everything automated - for the rest there's a tax accountant

Antonio 05-10-2011 06:07 AM

about 5 minutes I guess, I review the bills before making a payment though, I don't have them set to be paid from my bank account automatically

bronco67 05-10-2011 06:54 AM

All I know is that if I didn't have the automatic checking, I'd be in serious trouble -- because I'd forget to pay everything each month.

Actually, my credit score has been stellar ever since I've had automatic Chase bill pay for the last few years.

about the same

Ravage 05-10-2011 07:05 AM

Only about 5 mins a month on the 16th.

The bills come in sporadically during the month so I quickly check over them before for discrepencies before clipping them up on the whiteboard to be paid.

Phoenix 05-10-2011 07:10 AM

i usually overpay
i haven't paid a water bill in over a year, i still have a huge balance with them..lol

some people when they get drunk or messed up buy stuff online.
i forget that i already paid bills, and i go online and pay them...its funny, but sometimes too much

Chosen 05-10-2011 07:28 AM

Bills? What bills? :)

CaptainHowdy 05-10-2011 07:36 AM

I thought the exact same thing as I saw the piles of flesh awaiting to pay their bills on the nearest banks ...

alias 05-10-2011 07:44 AM

6 minutes 42 seconds.

not much, maybe an hour or 2

seeandsee 05-10-2011 08:27 AM

i get all the bills at home in 3-4 days around 10th in month, then i go to postoffice and pay it, so i need some time, 10-20 minutes

Babaganoosh 05-10-2011 08:33 AM

Just a few minutes is all I HAVE to spend. I sometimes spend some extra time reviewing charges though. Once in a while I catch some kind of billing mistake.

Chris 05-10-2011 09:02 AM

few minutes aswell
everything for me is automated except the water bill.
that is an annoying phone system that has 10 million options

96ukssob 05-10-2011 09:06 AM

most of mine are on autopay, with the exception of credit cards.

I had my electric bill on autopay until three months ago when I checked my account I was dinged for $840 dollars  The highest my bill ever was was around $280. Some idiot ended up making a mistake while reading the meter.

Going forward, that is a manual one. I just set reminders in Google calendar and spend at most 10 minutes a month

CYF 05-10-2011 09:32 AM

I don't like automated payments that come out of my account.

I spend about 20 minutes a month going online and making payments each month.

Me 2, hate automated payments, I'd rather spend a little more time and do it myself.

Why don't you like them?

Me, about 10 minutes max a month. Most automated, 2 or 3 by hand.

ottopottomouse 05-10-2011 01:01 PM

Few minutes.

Scott McD 05-10-2011 01:05 PM

Hardly any time at all. Just about everything is set up direct-debit, and anything else can easily be done in seconds with online banking...

Elli 05-10-2011 01:39 PM

about half an hour once a week or so. Most things are automated, but I keep a strict budget and I'm a stats hound, so I like to spend time with my numbers.

Lilit 05-10-2011 03:39 PM

I review bills before paying so don't have any automated ones. Takes me 10 min maximum through online banking.

I'm impressed that you started a thread, I must have been doing them for too long today:1orglaugh

So fucking true.

My card company called me last week or the week before and said there were several late payments posted on another one of my cards and wanted an explanation. I pointed out that I had the minimum balance on auto pay and hadn't had a late payment in 3 years.

Ahh certainty.
