The joy of a mechanical keyboard

Nothing gets me harder than the sound of an old fashioned mechanical keyboard. Kind of like the one I'm using now, build in 1994. It makes such a satisfying click, and has a perfect tactile feel.

So let me ask you, why aren't YOU using a mechanical keyboard?

Babaganoosh 05-16-2011 01:31 PM

I am. Razer blackwidow at home and a das keyboard at the office. Ill never go back to those cheapass keyboards again.

Chosen 05-16-2011 01:32 PM

Because I'm using laptop :upsidedow

PR_Glen 05-16-2011 01:35 PM

i type faster without one?

plus if you work in an office full of people it would get loud and annoying as shit...

Dejan 05-16-2011 01:40 PM

'cause they are so 90's

Mines a bit noisy though.

Fletch XXX 05-16-2011 02:42 PM

do they make em with blue LED keys?

Elli 05-16-2011 02:52 PM

I can't stand the clicky keyboards. They just drive me up the wall. My favourite right now is the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard because of its super low profile keys and lack of clickiness. My previous fave was the Logitech UltraX, which they changed for the worse then discontinued. Optimally there would be no travel at all, just a tap like on a touchscreen.

Tom_PM 05-16-2011 02:59 PM

Everytime you hear a click, an angel gets it's wings. Hey, get me! I'm givin' out wings!

I miss them and I know I have a couple old Tandy kb's around here that click. Maybe when I destroy this one I'll check into some adapters and try one out.

PenisFace 05-16-2011 03:32 PM

The click is beautiful, LALALLA you are wrong if you disagree LALAALAL *fingers in ears*

What I really want is an IBM Model M. Now THAT would make me happy.

Yep, I was addicted to the G15 myself. When I switched to mechanical my original 1st generation g15 went to storage. I always wanted a G18 but I have no idea what I would do with the little LCD now that I don't game anymore.

The razer does have macro keys as well.

It's probably like the new cells, you get better at it with time. They say you can change it into a second monitor, maybe like an intuos type deal? The image posted shows a game or show, either way looks pretty sweet. They have an infared one out now as well but that one looks like a pain.

I have a huge IBM keyboard with a manufacture date of 1991. It's even made in USA. They feel great to program on and the click noise ensures you aren't missing any characters.

Voice recognition software ftw!

But in all honesty, the 'old' clicky keyboards sound cool... but in these days I'd rather have a silent keyboard.

That's what's great about the old clicky keyboards, you know if you've hit the key, even when not looking at the keyboard or the screen. With my old squishy silent keyboard, I made a billion more mistakes while typing. Mostly missed letters. :(

you can type for hours and hours and never get tired... how long can you talk for? 60 minutes then your voice wears out...

Plus i type about 5 times faster than i can talk.

Sorry that was misleading. I've never had one break, or even a key wear out. They do get a bit louder over time though, especially the space bar on its way up after being pressed.

I've just had a number of workstations that have needed keyboards. I've probably owned 5 or 6 of these.

marlboroack 05-17-2011 08:46 PM

I fucking love those keyboards to death
