Greatest Sports Movie Ever?
Pretty easy one for me: Hoosiers.
Opinions? |
Another really cool and surprisingly good movie is Mystery, Alaska.
Hoosiers it is! I'm biased, but I honestly think it is.
Other greats... Bull Durham, Slap Shot, Rudy, Miracle, Eight Men Out, Major League, Breaking Away (another Indiana classic), Caddy Shack, The Natural, Rocky, Raging Bull |
Rock has to be up there. I REALLY liked Remember The Titans. That is one that sticks in my mind.
Remember the Titans.
Field of Dreams and SlapShot
Brian' Song...Freakin tearjerker to this day

Ben Hur for the chariot race.

Hoosiers - might be my favorite movie period, it's up there anyway. I'm partial to movies set in small town America in the 40's and 50's - seemed like such a simpler and better world. people still had dignity and pride and respect.
Slapshot though i think it would have been an even better movie if it hadn't gone over the top with some of the comedy. Bull Durham, Rudy, and all the others already mentioned. |
Field of Dreams.
"Hey Dad, want to have a catch?" Perfect movie. |
Bang the drum slowly.
Maybe not a classic but had me choked up. |
escape to victory
I recently watched Grand Prix starring James Garner and LeMans starring Steve McQueen.
Awesome cinematography for that day. :thumbsup I guess I need to watch Hoosiers :) |
The Waterboy
Invincible or Friday Night Lights
Slapshot, Raging Bull (does that count?), Bull Durham, Field Of Dreams, The Rookie...all fantastic and hard to choose from one....but most of my favorite sports movies are about baseball.
Vision Quest
The Natural
Goal (1-3)
I hate to say it but i really liked the Replacements.
maybe not the best one ever but defiantley funny. |
Hmm...I also agree with Bull Durham and Major League...to complete a baseball line up I might throw in Field Of Dreams and League Of Their Own
Slapshot and Caddyshack for the following reason...
Both of those movies have become so woven into the culture of the sport that they are essentially forever loved above and beyond any single critique. |
Bad News Bears! Classic.
The Program was an above average football movie.
Happy Gilmore! How can it go wrong when Apollo Creed is the golf coach with the wooden hand!

Breaking Away was very good. Loved it.
What about Any Given Sunday...? |
Space Jam!
I've always liked Any Given Sunday and on a lesser note, Varsity Blues.
Real life movies
Reality is always better than fiction.
Remember the titans. gerrybertier.com Can you remember this guy? :) |
Coach Carter
Any given sunday was good IMO, although critics killed it.
baseketball.
Blades of Glory
Rocky series by far.
The Replacements with Keanu Reeves
Baseketball.
Or if that doesn't count, Major League. |
I don't watch sports movies intentionally...
