Greatest Sports Movie Ever?

Pretty easy one for me: Hoosiers.

Opinions?

J. Falcon 05-19-2011 11:40 AM

Another really cool and surprisingly good movie is Mystery, Alaska.

Sam - Mr. Skin 05-19-2011 11:48 AM

Hoosiers it is! I'm biased, but I honestly think it is.

Other greats...

Bull Durham, Slap Shot, Rudy, Miracle, Eight Men Out, Major League, Breaking Away (another Indiana classic), Caddy Shack, The Natural, Rocky, Raging Bull

Ross 05-19-2011 12:38 PM

Rock has to be up there. I REALLY liked Remember The Titans. That is one that sticks in my mind.

bushwacker 05-19-2011 12:42 PM

Remember the Titans.

TisMe 05-19-2011 12:44 PM

agreed, looking forward to seeing more

Paul Markham 05-19-2011 12:49 PM

Ben Hur for the chariot race.

Mutt 05-19-2011 12:50 PM

Hoosiers - might be my favorite movie period, it's up there anyway. I'm partial to movies set in small town America in the 40's and 50's - seemed like such a simpler and better world. people still had dignity and pride and respect.

Slapshot though i think it would have been an even better movie if it hadn't gone over the top with some of the comedy.

Bull Durham, Rudy, and all the others already mentioned.

Atticus 05-19-2011 12:55 PM

Field of Dreams.

"Hey Dad, want to have a catch?"

Perfect movie.

Slambino 05-19-2011 12:56 PM

Bang the drum slowly.
Maybe not a classic but had me choked up.

escape to victory

justinsain 05-19-2011 01:01 PM

I recently watched Grand Prix starring James Garner and LeMans starring Steve McQueen.
Awesome cinematography for that day. :thumbsup

I guess I need to watch Hoosiers :)

The Waterboy

Elias 05-19-2011 01:20 PM

Invincible or Friday Night Lights

SykkBoy 05-19-2011 01:24 PM

Slapshot, Raging Bull (does that count?), Bull Durham, Field Of Dreams, The Rookie...all fantastic and hard to choose from one....but most of my favorite sports movies are about baseball.

I hate to say it but i really liked the Replacements.

maybe not the best one ever but defiantley funny.

Sarah_Jayne 05-19-2011 02:33 PM

Hmm...I also agree with Bull Durham and Major League...to complete a baseball line up I might throw in Field Of Dreams and League Of Their Own

Far-L 05-19-2011 02:47 PM

Slapshot and Caddyshack for the following reason...

Both of those movies have become so woven into the culture of the sport that they are essentially forever loved above and beyond any single critique.

Dead 05-19-2011 03:19 PM

Bad News Bears! Classic.

J. Falcon 05-19-2011 05:29 PM

The Program was an above average football movie.
