"While My Guitar Gently Weeps"

Perhaps the great Beatles song ever?

Or does John's "Across the Universe" take the cake?

I can't decide.

Please enlighten me .

Thank god when I started smoking weed I was really into The Beatles and such. I think I was in another world one night while listening to The Doors - The End.

Far too many great Beatles songs to pick a favorite. But if I had to I'd have to say A Day In The Life.

BlackCrayon 05-21-2011 09:47 PM

clapton played on that track. awesome song.

Socks 05-22-2011 12:58 AM

SomeCreep 05-22-2011 01:40 AM

Not just the best Beatles track, without doubt the best music of its type bar none.

NewNick 05-22-2011 02:00 AM

Calico Jack 05-22-2011 02:19 AM

I always thought the simplicity of ''Till there was you'' was a masterpiece.

DWB 05-22-2011 03:08 AM

Not sure I could pick just ONE as the best. A lot depends on my mood, but Across The Universe would be in the top 10.

NewNick 05-22-2011 03:28 AM

this version also good.

Check out the amazing Prince solo....

One of the best songs ever written. I've always felt that George's contribution to the Beatles wasn't held in the same regard as Paul and John's.

One of the best covers IMHO of My Guitar is this one:

Exactly... two of my faves that are gems of songwriting talent and production skills: For No One and In My Life.

DaLord 05-22-2011 09:25 AM

Blackbird is perfect in my humble opinion.

So many great songs that defined a generation and their kids and their kids.

Yep. My favorite Beatle. He wrote the second-greatest love song of the 60's, too: "Something".

CurrentlySober 05-22-2011 12:00 PM

Best Beatles song ever - Albeit the literal version - 'Literally' brilliant!

Scott McD 05-22-2011 12:06 PM

I must be one of the very few people who doesn't like ANY of The Beatles songs. Just not my thing at all...

Matyko 05-22-2011 12:41 PM

So many great songs from Beatles and Lennon as well, impossible to pick one. I am raising my kids with them and of course they love it :pimp

-=- Our house is full of LOVE -=-

Dead 05-22-2011 12:49 PM

Never did care for them, to much drama inside of the band. They played for the camera instead of the muse...beside the fact the people were searching for something different. Right time right place scenario.

He is WAY underrated on guitar, he fucking rocks. Always has, since "For You."

The song that always - ALWAYS - makes my spine tingle is 'Rain'. Fucking amazing, I'm gonna go listen to it right NOW.

PS to all the people who say they don't like ANY Beatle songs at all, none: You haven't heard EVERY single Beatles song then, because that band invented everything, did everything first, and they created so much variety that I call foul on people who say they don't dig a SINGLE Beatle song, not one. Listen to every Beatles album, from 'Meet The Beatles' to 'Let It Be' then tell me. Listen to every single song, in order, on every Beatles album (13 of 'em) and if you still say you didn't like even ONE song I will buy you....something. LOL

NaughtyRob 05-22-2011 02:57 PM

Not a Beatles song but a John Lennon song and easily the best song ever.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imagine_(song)
"Imagine."

In 2004, "Imagine" ranked #3 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, behind The Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" and Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone".

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 05-22-2011 03:14 PM

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps", featuring George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Elton John and Jeff Lynne, live at the Prince's Trust Concert, Wembley 1987.

Now I love The Beatles as much as anyone...but, um, they didn't invent "everything", nor did they do "everything first".

You might wanna start at Little Richard, and Johnny Cash, and Buddy Holly, and Chuck Berry.

Then, back up to all the blues dudes, which are too numerous to list here.

thats impressive....

Jakez 05-22-2011 09:48 PM

When I'm 64 is even more amazing because of how his life at 64 kind of resembled the song he made decades earlier. Beatles continue to amaze even when they aren't doing anything.

Quiet there whippersnapper. LOL But I know what you mean and of course you're correct. I wasn't really talking the roots of rock, or the blues or jazz either. More like, from 1963 on until they split in '70, they did everything first with the possible exceptions of Dylan (words) and The Byrds (Dylan's words + jangle, tho it can be argued Buddy Holly beat them to it). But in terms fo their contemporaries, they did (almost) everything before anyone else of their generation: distortion, multi-loops, vocal distortion, instrumentation, on and on....plus, you can dance to it (mostly). LOL

Oh don't get me started.....:)
