not really in LA anymore... best you can do is show up and get kicked off the jusry.... no way to get off sitting at home by the phone

NeptuneDrew 05-24-2011 07:45 AM

It's your duty as a citizen blah blah blah...

ottopottomouse 05-24-2011 07:56 AM

Everybody likes to find a way to get out of it but surely that just means juries end up composed of halfwits who haven't worked out how to not do it.

amateurbfs 05-24-2011 08:00 AM

I have been picked a few times and every time I have to call I was never picked to show up. So you still have a chance of not having to go.

GregE 05-24-2011 08:04 AM

A friend of mine wrote back that he was doubtful as to whether he could stay sober that long, but that he was sure willing to give it a try.

They excused him.

Sid70 05-24-2011 08:09 AM

this is what many other countries eager to have and you are escaping it, someone's destiny depends on it, no?

Lace 05-24-2011 08:38 AM

I've been picked twice in six years now. I think its 3 years in between. Both have been a complete waste of time and them paying me $15-20 to go is ridiculous. I'd much rather work than sit in a school type room, waiting for them to call us down and nothing ever happen. Plus, the first time I went, they let us go to lunch so I left the parking garage, came back and on my way back in, another juror told me they let us go so I left. Leaving the parking garage, they charged me $7 for all of 2 minutes I was there. Jury duty is a joke.

The problem with the call-in system is you don't know if or when you're going to be called in, so you can't book work. The system works fine for people with regular day jobs, but not for freelancers with irregular schedules like Brian and me.

JamesGw 05-24-2011 09:34 AM

Unless you signed for the mail, just don't reply. I never have.

Gator 05-24-2011 09:42 AM

I don't know why jury duty has such a bad rap. I think people make a bigger deal out of it than it really is. It's not bad.

You should start your own advice column...

Dear JamesGw, I have a pet alligator and I was thinking of dangling my nuts in his cage. Should I?

you're right... how about I force you to take a week off work with no pay?

Phoenix 05-24-2011 05:57 PM

i wouldnt mind doing it once just for the experience

but if you want out...just be uber eager...keep telling them you will do your part...not too worry, you know what you need to do etc

that way you are always coming off as a bit nutty..lol both sides will want you out

cam_girls 05-24-2011 05:59 PM

I turned up one morning and got my name taken on the role then got half a day off work. Next day I was rushing to the train to get to the city and my g/f was chucking some spaz about doing this and that so I missed the train, took the day off work and when I returned to work they asked what the case was about and I said I wasn't allowed to disucuss it!

Guess again.

I got a notice in the mail yesterday saying I may be called up in the next 12 months. My plan is also to ignore them. From what I hear they never send them registered.

I had to go to court once as witness when I saw a someone get hit by a car. Three fucking days of sitting around and then 15 minutes in the box when called.

Seems a small price to pay for the privilege to live in such a wonderful country.

candyflip 05-25-2011 12:55 PM

I got out of it recently. The case involved my girl's ob/gyn who delivered 1 of my kids.

That was enough to get me out of there in under 2 hours.

Free for the next 8 years.

NetHorse 05-25-2011 01:04 PM
