what would you like to see in a mainstream WP theme?
 

the subject is pretty descriptive, but anyway, pls lmk what would you like to see in a mainstream WP theme in terms of look, features, whatever. Could be an example of an existing theme, or a combination of themes, or features on top of something existing, or something totally new. Looking for some ideas, mainly on ULTRA SIMPLE stuff, the creative, wild, crazy, glamour, etc approach is more than covered, but I really have a hard time figuring out ultra simple things. Let's be clear: I don't want to copy anything, I'm looking to understand what end users like the most in a theme

Of course, if I get a nice idea from here I might throw a free super theme :winkwink: so don't be shy, maybe your idea will turn in reality... for free!

And don't worry about suggesting features, we can do almost anything you could think of, so go as wild as you want :thumbsup

PS: if it fits both mainstream and adult, then better, but I'm looking for mainstream approaches here :)

This is probably something that can be done via a plugin rather than a theme, but one feature I would really like to see is to have images appear when you scroll over links in the sidebar.

I've already done that, but the end result turns out to be a little confusing if you hover quickly. Had it on one page for almost a year and took it off a couple weeks ago, but it isn't difficult at all. Might consider it again if I can find a way to make it look a little more consistent. Either way, many thanx for the input! :thumbsup

that's exactly how I did it, but see what happens when you hover over the links in a quick way? Now that I think about it, maybe a fade in effect could solve the issue

I am a fan of flexsqueeze 3, based on flexibility theme. It's so adaptable. I would like to see a hybrid of flexsqueeze and thesis.

you're talking about frameworks here, not themes. This being said, all our newest themes already include "framework-esque" features, so this could be a path to go deeper :thumbsup

I'd like a wordpress theme that just makes money on its own. So I wont have to do market research, keyword research, post banners or videos, get inbound links, write articles, do product reviews, and not have to run xrumer and seonuke-x

Please let me know when its finished. Oh and I dont want to pay more than $9.97 for it and I need to be able to install it on as many domains as I want.
