Hangover 2 tattoo copyright lawsuit ...

Warner Bros. Will Alter DVDs If Case Doesn't Settle Soon;

"Warner Bros. has told a Missouri judge that if it can?t resolve the ongoing legal fracas over the tattoo on display in the mega-grossing comedy by the time it comes out on home video, the studio will digitally alter the controversial mark on Helms? face.

easy money....

Gotta piss off Warner Bros. ... they can't have an actor wear a tattoo without getting involved in a copyright lawsuit but the actual movie will lose a small fortune to copyright violations.

Some more cheap publicity

Now you have to watch it just to see the tattoo... Genius!

Di they have to make it exactly the same? All they had to do was change 1% of the tattoo -- no one would get into lawsuit trouble, and the viewers wouldn't know the difference.

Pretty sure that's not the case.

Surely it would be more cost effective for Warner to just pay this guy a couple million rather than editing the entire movie?

No, I'm saying if they had just NOT directly copied the tattoo design when they shot the movie -- and opted for 99% duplicate. That could have legally kept them out of trouble. No viewer would get out a slide ruler while watching the movie and examine it.

Makes you wonder what would happen if you went to a tattoo place, asked for a tattoo of some widget, got the tattoo and it later turned out the tattoo artist used a copyrighted image of that widget as a basis for your tattoo...

court ordered laser surgery?
