Texas dead body HOAX and the police weren't fooled????

http://news.discovery.com/human/psyc...ax-110609.html

"So the police weren?t ?fooled,? instead they were doing their jobs. The fault lies not with law enforcement but with the psychic who misled them...''

WTF

the police were fooled, and proved they are fools by their reaction to this.

They did the right thing.

The 1st time they went to the property nothing seemed out of place. The next day the "psychic" called again and on their second trip they discovered inordinate amounts of blood and a smell they couldn't identify.

So yes, they did the prudent thing. Maybe with a little too much gusto.

dozens of cops doing 2 searches based on a psychic hunch ?

At least here in Toronto, police have a responsibility to respond to every call they get. If you say there are aliens raping errreybody at such and such address, they have a legal responsibility to at least send a cruiser by and check.

Might seem crazy, but what's even crazier is letting police dispatchers decide what's important and what's not based on whatever.

Dozens of cops... I dunno why they went and did that.

Police aren't fuck-ups, psychics are real and I have a 20 inch penis

i hear that

but calling in the fbi and informing cnn,...that you have 25-30 dead kids bodies is quite another thing

i think those cops saw the book deals in their eyes and were hoping to find bodies

thickcash_amo 06-10-2011 05:11 AM

maybe it was just a slow day for the cops

seeandsee 06-10-2011 05:18 AM

jesus psyho hellped them?

I'm still wondering who started the media circus. Police generally try to avoid getting the media involved, it just complicates their job. I have a hunch that someone else initially tipped off the media.

As for involving the FBI. Given the scope of what they thought they might be dealing with, asking the FBI for assistance would be prudent. I doubt Liberty county has the resources or expertise for dealing with that kind of crime scene, if the phychic had been correct.

Sly 06-10-2011 05:59 AM

If they didn't look into it and there actually were bodies there, dozens of people would have been fired or put on leave. They covered their ass and probably did the right thing.

This thread would look completely different if just one arc of the story was different.

czarina 06-10-2011 06:13 AM

it makes sense, psychic or not, it is a tip and they have to follow it

Phoenix 06-10-2011 06:19 AM

dont get me wrong com padres...i think they should have followed up on the tip
but you know...with like 2-4 cops going over there and checking it out

fbi....maybe call them once you see some bodies
cnn...and international press knowing the names of the poor family living there...not so much

i suspect there will be some backlash

if not then no biggie

Yeah it's the media circus that got out of hand, the coppers should have kept it quiet.

I'd imagine they'd have to check all shit like that out, imagine if they blew off a tip then they found later that it was real and they never looked into it.

Definitely they need to round up the 'psychic' and charge them for the wasted funds.

Caligari 06-10-2011 06:52 AM

The police have been using psychics to find missing people/bodies for years now.
And they find them. I knew a woman in California who found missing people for the cops and she was a real psychic, so i'm not surprised they followed the lead.

You know the government uses remote viewers right?

The psychic probably contacted every possible venue after she didn't get the PR results she expected the 1st day.

SleazyDream 06-11-2011 01:06 AM

imagine the chaos one could cause calling in psychic tips from a throw away cell phone. you could plan a bank robbery in a small town doing that, - "hey there's 25 bodies on Mr's Jone's farm, I'm a psychic, blah blah blah " - and then all the cops would be 30 miles away from where you are to rob your bank or what not.....

Bit late now you've given the plan away.

This.

Although I would like to know the average psychic body-find hit rate considering they usually say such vague statements that they can be wrong and right at the same time.

V_RocKs 06-11-2011 05:57 AM

I see Texas people.

vague is the word. as far as finding bodies i have yet to find any percentiles but there are numerous cases of success and the cops continue to use them so...
http://www.customessaymeister.com/cu...ology/8071.htm

the way the psychic i knew described it, occasionally the police would call her in to find a missing person or a body and the last case she described was when she found the body of a 5 year old girl who had been missing in los angeles county for some time. she said she took the cops to the actual pinpoint place where the body was hidden/buried. she described vibrations getting "stronger" and "louder" as she neared the body, whatever that means.

on the other hand with actually solving cases for the police, not so good;)
http://www.skeptically.org/spiritualism/id10.html

apparently there is a connection between subjects alive and moving versus subjects dead or confined. easier to track vibrations on unmoving targets i guess.

its an interesting subject, i have no doubt that many people have the ability to use their brains (different parts) for "abnormal" processes but the field is so full of fraud its largely viewed with total skepticism.

A detailed three-year study of her predictions about 115 missing persons and murder cases, published in Skeptical Inquirer, concluded that despite her repeated claims to be more than 85% correct, "Browne has not even been mostly correct in a single case."[7]
Sylvia Browne hasn't really found any missing persons, and I assume these stats are similar for other "psychics"
