Sig ;) Always prefer Skype over ICQ

NickB. 06-10-2011 01:37 PM

Seee sig!

Tom_PM 06-10-2011 01:38 PM

It must be distressing to ICQ that in the space of one update, an entire industry or two could turn to a competing product. Where do you get skype? I'll check the googles.

Shane_2ptoh 06-10-2011 01:42 PM

sig ciz ciga-cigaaaaa (spice girls)

Lace 06-10-2011 01:44 PM

I rarely even open ICQ anymore. Nothing but spam and a cluster fuck of contacts. Switching over to Skype slowly but surely.

RuthB 06-10-2011 01:44 PM

Skype: PaxumRuth :thumbsup

V_RocKs 06-10-2011 01:55 PM

Using Skype as an IM client is like using Webmoney over Paxum...

It isn't as good of a replacement for ICQ as Paxum was for Epassporte.

You can't send offline messages.

AdultKing 06-10-2011 01:59 PM

How many of you have a personal and a business skype account ? Given that Skype voice clients tend to allow one account only, does that mean you will all be offline when on your own account ?

scarlettcontent 06-10-2011 01:59 PM

skype scarlettcontent :thumbsup

Offline messages were never reliable anyway :2 cents:

Email is the way to leave a real offline message.

Actually thinking about this, how much more work could you do handsfree while sorting out an issue in voice rather than typing to someone who types a 5 words per minute on ICQ ?

As much as I love your analogy V_RocKs, I do have to say that I've had no problem sending offline messages over Skype. :2 cents:

Roald 06-10-2011 02:08 PM

the advantage of typing over talking imo is that I can always read back what was said when needed. That is if there is a history kept ofcourse ;)

Fuck history, I don't log ICQ. If I want something in writing I get it emailed to me. I prefer voice, it's a much better use of my time.

But it doesn't send offline messages. Also it has no reliable encrypting algorithm (you can't be sure that all your communication info is not available to some 3rd-party), and... it's Microsoft.

Well, I don't know about the other stuff.. but I *DO* know from my own experience that I have sent offline messages to my clients and had them respond to the exact thing I've typed to them when they come back online... which to me, means offline messages get through.

Messages you send to a contact that is offline will not be delivered until both contacts is online

Yeah it's because Skype doesn't store your shit like AIM and ICQ. I don't want my shit stored. Or logged.

Offline messaging? When someone is offline why would you message them, they are offline. That's what email is for. Would you try calling someones telephone if you knew their phone was off? No you'd leave a voicemail though maybe.

Anyway, I think Skype's offline messaging works fine the way it is. I've never had any issues not getting som important information after 5 years of using it. With ICQ, I've had numerous issues.

Offline messaging has never worked perfectly well for any IM clients anyway

If you had to deliver an important message to someone who is OFFLINE, why would you trust ANY Instant Messaging client with it. Wouldn't you EMAIL or CALL them?

i dont see myself speaking on the phone all day and recording everything..

I have gotten offline messages from people on Skype when they were not online at the time, so the "both online" thing is news to me.

Why is ICQ so popular amongst the adult webmasters anyway?
I don`t get it, it`s such a shitty tool.
