The reasons I don't like Skype!
 

I know many people are moving to Skype and there's 2 things that bug me about it.

1. No Spell Check, because it can't be added to a 3rd party like Trillion to my knowledge.

2. I will have 3or4 convos going at 1 time, when 1 of them will decide they want to call instead of type which means I'm distracted from the other convos I'm having.

Other then that, its ok.

I want skype to blink like icq does. get my attention when i am doing other things.

Geez - I thought you liked it when we went cam 2 cam.

It's too heavy, and chat messages not getting delivered to recipient while you're offline.

- When you copy and paste it adds some stupid quotes and name to it
- Wont minimize to task bar

all these IMs have positives and negatives, why cant we all just have one that does everything?

Use Shift+Ctrl+C , copies in plain text, but adds nicks and time-stamps if multi-msg's copied

thing that bugs me in skype each chat window doesn't remember selected language, so jumping between Russian and English conversations I always need to switch the language. and yeah offline not sending is an inconvenience

i switched to skype a while ago mainly because of their conversation history, icq's was terrible when you needed to search for something and or copy more than one msg in conversation, fortunately they've fixed that with one of their recent updates., but still skype's UI is more friendlier imho.

Also you can't send messages offline like on ICQ - both of you and the other guy should be online so he could get your message.

I've always LOATHED Skype, for most of the reasons already listed here...

No spell check (I'm LOST without it lol)
No offline messages
won't minimize
Doesn't blink or "alert" me to a new message UNLESS I'm paying attention to the icon in my task bar

BUT, I have it, and WILL use it if I 'must'

* - The minimize issue - are you running windows 7?
TOOL/OPTIONS/ADVANCED/Advanced settings
"keep skype in the task bar while I'm signed in", unchecked - If that doesn't work then run Skype in Vista compatibility mode.

* - Skype has alerts via sound and flashing (in windows) and bouncing skype icon in Mac.
Make sure to check your settings for alerts

:thumbsup - I have been using skype for 6 years and it is absolutely the best IM imho.
It is the only IM i know of that allows you to delete a message you sent - if you accidentally sent a message to someone in their window you can delete it.

I love skype. Consider it a blessing that ICQ cut you off. I think the last time I used ICQ was 1999, and it sucked then and made a horrible type writer noise. You also couldn't click 'enter' to send your message, you would have to use your mouse and click 'send'.

I'm not that big on M$ owning Skype however. Good opportunity for somebody new to break into the game.

someone should come up with a new one that has encryption built in and ensures privacy :2 cents:

1. Skype on Windows is a UI nightmare
2. Skype 5 on mac is a UI nightmare (older version was much better)
3. They promote that they don't have centralized server, which is BS, because how does it crash for everyone time from time then?
