Just back from Vancouver.. Congrats Vancouver...NOTHING HAS CHANGED
 

So here I am at Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Canadian national anthem is being sung and in unison over 18,000 Canadian hockey fans are singing along as one clebrating their team ,thier city, thier country. It was breath taking....THEN there are 18,000 fans.. booing as loud as humanly possible as Gary Bettman trys to present the Conn Smythe trophy and then the Stanley Cup. Booing every player from Boston that hoists the Cup. Oh yeah did I mention the 40 or 50 beers, soda and water bottles that were tossed on to the ice hiiting players . One large soda hit a cameraman as he was shooting the Cup being presented to Chara. I mean hit him dead on and sprayed soda everywhere ..including the holy grail itself. I saw THE CUP geyt hit twice with waterbottles.
Oh yeah it gets worse..then came the fires and the riots. The beatings and the stabbings. The idiots throwing debris at the police line. Tear gas and explosions everywhere. The city was on fire and my ass was caught right in the middle and was lucky to find a hotel close by. I watched as they looted many stores, burned cars , one guy even burned a Canadian flag.

Vancouver fans, you are a bunch of asshats and may the hockey gods NEVER EVER reward you with a CUP. To the few who had nothing to do with it I feel sorry for you.
Your team, your city and your country has been embarrassed beyond belief. See you in another 15 years or so next time you grobble into the finals.

Cuz the Super Bowl is held in a neutral location 95% of the time.

If you were really there and actually listening you would have noticed that the fans inside the building were classy as can be during/after the game.

They booed Bettman because he is an ass-hat, but aside from that Milan Lucic got a deafening cheer from the crowd, Tim Thomas was choked up in the post-game interview because of how loudly the fans cheered for him, and every Bruin that grabbed the cup to skate around was cheered.

The real fans stayed for the entire celebration and showed exceptional class and character. The ass-clowns outside that had PRE-MEDITATED plans to riot no matter the outcome of the come are the ones who should be reprimanded.

Canadians saw a lot of shit go down during the l.a. riots but we didn't generalize all l.a. people as rioting looting douchebags.. :2 cents:

I saw alot of fans trying to stop the looting and destruction .. most of the looters and rioters were not fans and it is simply assinine to generalize all vancouver fans as "asshats" or to say "the few who had nothing to do with it" when infact the overall majority of fans had NOTHING to do with it. You would be much closer in fact by saying all people in los angeles are mexican.

I agree with that. Problem is the world is saying " did you see what happened in Canada" Its not right just as its not all canuck fans .. but as I was watching on tv from my hotel, I sure saw alot of Canuck jerseys out there watching and laughing

Most fans in the arena were good, as for Bettman you must be new cause he gets booed everywhere he goes in Canada. He has taken teams from markets with passionate fans and dropped them in places like Phoenix and Atlanta where nobody would even know there was a game going on. As for the Canadas game thing look at the rosters and you will see 17 Canadians on the Bruins

Just goes to show how cool, calm, collected, and orderly Canada is for the most part. I saw a riot worse than this a few weeks ago...and all it consisted of was a huge lawn party for some fraternities.

I am truly embarrassed and disappointed in the people involved in what happened last night....but it was the minority. It was goons hell-bent on using game 7 as an excuse to stir up trouble.

I'm visiting Vancouver in August, and this incident has really lowered my excitement level about going. I think those fucks had it in their head they had already won, and like so many self-entitled punks these days, decided to throw a fucking hissy fit. Fuck them in the ass.

This is an isolated incident, and for the most part it didnt even involve fans. I was just listening to a cop and a firefighter talk on the radio about how they watched (not to sterotype) a lot of young punks that were obviously "low on the employment ladder" come downtown AFTER the game to stir this up and be a part of it.

Real fans cheered and went home.

ANd as mentioned already, this wasnt done because the fans thought they had won the cup and were upset. It would have happened either way, win or lose,thanks to the few that screwed this up for the rest of us.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. There are organized "protest" groups travelling around N America and sending their people to every event where they can stir up shit and do damage to property they don't own. Ever see the movie "Battle in Seattle" you'll see just how organized these groups are, and they talk about how they migrate around to event after event.

The g20 in Toronto was them too, I'm sure of it.

Get your facts straight you ignorant hosers - Bettman did NOT remove teams from Canada, blame the Canadian owners of the Winnipeg Jets and the Quebec Nordiques for that, they sold their teams. At the time the Canadian dollar was .60 cents USD and players salaries in the NHL are paid in US dollars as well as a lot of their operating costs such as travel and lodging. Winnipeg and Quebec both had small arenas and simply could no longer afford to have NHL franchises. Now that the USD/CDN dollars are at par - Winnipeg is back and Quebec will be back when they get a new arena, if the CDN remains strong versus the USD.
