California's IRREVOCABLE PAROLE system already yielding innocent lives

The situation: The California Supreme court ordered the release of 30,000 inmates due to crowding. The state government set up a 'non-revocable' parole system. Parole won't be withdrawn even if you commit another crime.

Sadly there is a large lack of money to do anything about it. But of course no one wants to pay more more taxes to provide the money.

The only people in prison should be VIOLENT criminals.

These draconian prison sentences for some of these other things are fucking ridiculous. Warehousing people for fucking decades at the cost of $40-60,000.00 per inmate to the tax payers.

Fucking in-sane.

Sometimes I think some of these third world countries are doing something right. Steal, get you hand chopped off. I'd learn quicker from that then a 10-15 yr sentence where I'm back on the streets in under 3 yrs to steal again.

DWB 06-20-2011 02:20 AM

This will end badly.

Agent 488 06-20-2011 02:23 AM

aren't 50% of american prisoners in there for drug offences? who gives a fuck. let them out. 1 in 10 americans in jail anyway. they could let out millions and wouldn;t make a difference.

exactly...

Bill8 06-20-2011 03:39 AM

Chances are good the prison officials are intentionally releasing the violent criminals as a 'protest' against being forced to run their prisons properly.

The nature of their work, particularly when teh drug war and other "moral" crimes with lots of money being made from their artificial economy, corrupts both cops and prison officials.

Presumably someone actually knows who the non-violent prisoners are - but their advice isn't being used.

Altho it's possible that the system is so broken that they actually do not have a way to know who is violent and who isn't - is that what they would have us believe? That they have no records and files?

Mutt 06-20-2011 04:14 AM

wow, i'm sure some law firm will be suing the state of California for millions on behalf of the families of those killed by the violent savages the state made a mistake letting out on unrevokable parole.

i can't even imagine having a family member killed and finding out the animal who did it was a violent fucker the state let out of prison scot-free

seeandsee 06-20-2011 04:20 AM

some bad prisoners will hit freedom and make more shit

I'm sure the evidence warehouses are full too. Hand out a gun and some confiscated drugs when releasing the inmates.

dynastoned 06-20-2011 06:37 AM

i think you guys are blowing this out of proportion. seriously did any one of you read the article?

Quote:

The program, created by Senate Bill X3 18, became effective in January 2010. Under this program, the Department of Corrections is allowed to release from state prison a limited number of nonviolent, nonserious and nonsex offenders with no parole conditions and no parole supervision. These felons cannot have their parole revoked, even if they commit future crimes.

In theory, only the least violent and least risky felons who have served their time would qualify for non-revocable parole status, and the parole system would use fewer resources and cost the state less money. In practice, thousands of violent and dangerous prisoners have been erroneously freed without parole supervision or parole restrictions.
the whole article is about how the california prison systems are erroneously letting violent criminals out because their system sucks dick. the real program was set up to let out nonviolent criminals that didn't have a previous charge that included violent crime or sex related crimes.

of course the california prison systems are going to put out an article like this with a scary title that gets all you idiots up in arms. THEY MAKE MONEY OFF OF KEEPING PEOPLE IN PRISON! they also know morons like you guys don't read shit, you see a title and take it for face value. next thing you know a bill like this gets overturned in court because you idiots didn't read the fine print. when in fact it is a good bill put in place for a good reason.

GatorB 06-20-2011 06:45 AM

People need to quit their bitching. First they bicth about dudes getting out early but if you raise taxes to build more prisons they bitch about that. You can't have it both ways.

They show us a picture of these inmates, but how many inmates in that picture
were paroled?

That's pic was probably taken in the death row gym area.

set up tents and fences. There's really no need to spend money on violent criminals.
let them eat each other.

dynastoned 06-20-2011 07:09 AM

yeah exactly it's the shock and awe that they are looking for anyway. take a picture of a bunch of mexican mafia guys or something to make it look more dubious. it's just careless journalism to get more views.

american pervert 06-20-2011 07:24 AM

There is a scam the sheriffs would do in the county jails to make money. They did this all the time.

They would transfer inmates to various jails. each time they transfer an inmate they get $500. It wasn't unusual for an inmate with a 3-6 month sentences to be transfered 2-5 times.

And it won't require very many instances of such to cost the state of California everything they think they'll save plus a hell of a lot more.

This is so far beyond dumb it's almost beyond belief.

Agree 100%

Putting our citizens in prison in the numbers that we do as a country is the kind of shit that I was taught in school that only the "bad" countries did.

Right now we have more of our own citizens in prison both percentage wise and actual numbers than any other country in the world.
WE are the "bad" country and have been for a few decades now.

I'm pretty sure they aren't letting out murderers.
They are letting out the ones who shouldn't be there in the first place.
I don't think anybody is gonna be in much danger from pot smokers.

Word. Not all prisoners look like that or are in their for heinous crimes. Even 3 or 4th time DUI offenders, pot dealers, etc are sent to prison. Prisons are a private industry and California has the largest amount of prisons in the states. Let them out and stop wasting our resources on bullshit.

you didn't read the article, yes they are letting out very violent inmates/criminals. the intent of the program was to let out non-violent inmates but that's not what's happened - animals are getting out and hurting and killing people.

Yup. The government cant do anything right. Causing innocent people do die while non-violent, victimless crime, inmates rot in jail. :disgust

Property crime or theft. Pick one and stick with it. Can you also please link me to these statistics, Thanks.

Btw, may I ask what the issue is that you have with me that makes you feel like trolling me as of late?

That's not the fault of a program aimed at cutting the budget. That's the fault of the inept govt.

If they had never made up stupid ass drug laws to begin with and ended up with so many people in jail, then the REAL criminals wouldn't have the opportunity for these mistakes to happen.

To me it seems like everything I was taught in school as a child that the evil Soviets and Chinese were doing...WE are doing now!

THEN: Berlin Wall? It should come down! People should be free to travel!
NOW: Mexico? Build a wall! Search cars at the border! And frisk everybody at the airport while you're at it!

THEN: The communists in The Soviet Union, China, and Cuba are imprisoning their citizens on trumped up charges. They must be set free!
NOW: Throw more people in prison than any country in history...and make it mostly over the govt's failed drug war.

THEN: The people of The Soviet Union and China are watched by the govt. and wiretapped and if you suspect your neighbor of harboring "western" ideals you should report him. This can NOT be allowed to happen...these people must be FREE!
NOW: We are watched by the govt., drug tested, frisked at the airport, wire tapped, a search warrant is no longer needed to kick your door in, police can beat your ass and video tape you but if you video them you go to jail, and if you suspect your neighbor of having "muslim" ideals you should report him.

:Oh crap

In all honesty I just pulled that stat out of my ass but really, it just seems to make sense to me that most people who aren't addicts have other methods of getting food, shelter, etc. Being an addict, most don't keep a job and they have a very expensive addiction. They are going to have to resort to crime sooner or later.

Here are a couple links about. This article is from England but says that 80% of theft is drug related one way or another.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1405...-of-theft.html

Wikipedia says something very different, though they are most likely using very different metrics by asking inmates..
"In 2004, 17% of U.S. State prisoners and 18% of Federal inmates said they committed their current offense to obtain money for drugs. These percentages represent a slight increase for Federal prisoners (16% in 1997) and a slight decrease for State prisoners (19% in 1997)."

Anyways, I have no problems with you. You just happened to be the one of the last replies and I disagreed with your opinion. It was this thread and one other one. Thats it. No need to get all bent out of shape. From what I see of your posts you're a cool guy. No issues..

Vendzilla 06-21-2011 07:43 AM

The system is fucked
Cops waiting in the shadows to pull over anyone leaving a bar and pulling them over for any reason they want, you blow a .081 because you just finished a beer, when you get the to the station, you blow a .07, yet you spend the night in Jail.
It's added to a previous violation and you end up at the prison where it cost tax payers $50k a year.

Given that many people are out of work, less money is being recieved in taxes, how does the state afford this, they cut money from the schools?

So they release people from the Jails, this is good, we now have a bunch of felons that got out because someone overlooked something in his history and they can't find a job, what does he do, he breaks the law to survive. This is just fucked up!

yeah exactly. there is to much crying and bitching from these human rights people about how people in jail should be treated. shit, probably for 50% of the people in there they have a better life then they did outside.

if you knew if you were going to steal something and your hand would get cut off, im damn sure you would think twice about doing that crime :2 cents:
