She's dumb as a post, but obviously her handlers know exactly what they're doing.

I don't think she is going to run. The writing is on the wall. She has around a 60% unfavorably rating. Those who like her LOVE her, but there are a ton of people who really don't like her and her support base is pretty small. She would have some serious hurdles to overcome. Also, she could risk really damaging her brand if she ran. If she thought the democrats and the "liberal elite media" were hard on her, wait until her fellow republicans who don't want her to run get their claws into her.
If she runs and she comes off looking like a real idiot it could hurt her chances of getting that big paying TV gig again and selling all those books. As it stands right now she can cash in, sell the books, do the TV stuff and then when she feels like it she has the luxury of jumping in and commenting on a situation without having to actually have a solution to a problem.
I think she is having a very good time being a media star right now and won't want to give that up. The next two years could be hugely profitable for her, but if she jumps into into the race she will have to give up a lot of that money in order to focus on the campaign. The worst case scenario for her could be that she wins the primary and becomes the republican candidate only to get crushed by Obama. When you look back at recent candidates that got crushed like Dukakis and Mondale and Dole they basically disappear after that. She doesn't want that.
