Another 6.5 Magnitude earthquake Iwate (Japan)

Seems like another earthquake has hit this region, 6.5 Magnitude with an associated Tsunami warning.

Not the kind of thing the people trying to clean up that Nuclear reactor will have wanted.

Latest reports are saying it was actually 6.7 which is alot larger than first thought, remember the Richter scale is logarithmic not linear, so at that end of the scale a couple of points makes a big difference.

shitty day for Japan :(

NetHorse 06-22-2011 06:07 PM

Japan is well prepared for earthquakes and small tsunamis. They routinely get hit with them.

Just two days before the crazy 9.0 hit they were hit with a 7.2 that caused minimal damage. There was no media attention given to it, nor is there rarely ever (that is until the biggest quake in recorded Japanese history hit back in March).

Yup, it gives you an idea just how big that March 11th quake was. Each point measures an amplitude 10 times larger, so an 8.0 is 10 times more destructive than a 7.0 and that 9.0 was 10 times more destructive than a 8.0. Pretty crazy! :helpme

thickcash_amo 06-22-2011 06:10 PM

So with all these earthquakes, is Japan sinking or getting bigger?

_Richard_ 06-22-2011 06:17 PM

This is very common in Japan, isn't it?

Funny, I didn't get my email about this one.
